A headline that brought a smile to my face (even though people were injured)

My favorite quote (not copied below) from a Fire Captain: "We discourage people from walking over hot coals," Williams said.

Headline: San Jose: 21 people treated for burns after firewalk at Tony Robbins appearance
By Mark Gomez

SAN JOSE -- At least 21 people were treated for burn injuries after participating in a firewalk Thursday night at a Tony Robbins event in downtown, including at least three individuals who were taken to the hospital, according to a San Jose fire captain.

The people who suffered various second- and third-degree burn injuries had attended a Tony Robbins event at the San Jose Convention Center called Unleash the Power Within. Following the event, which ended at about 11 p.m., the crowd walked across the street to the park where 12 lanes of hot coals measuring 10-feet long and 2 1/2 feet wide rested on the grass.

Jonathan Correll, 25, decided to check out what was going on when "I heard wails of pain, screams of agony." He said one young woman appeared to be in so much pain "it was horrific."

They obviously weren't buying into Tony.

When I did it, you chanted "cool moss, cool moss"....1600 degree coals (I think that was the number but may be confusing it with Ruth's Chris and no burn. However, I wouldn't suggest one lingers too long.

The night I did it in Atlanta 6-7 years ago I'm guessing 450-500 people also did it with no injuries at all.

fWIW, this was an optional "event" but I can imagine there's some implied pressure on those considering giving it a pass.

The ones who got burned didn't buy in with their souls...or their soles.

Coals are for barbecuing.

Walking on them, is alittle like jumping out of a perfectly good airplane...........won't do that either.

I've always felt that I could do this.

Probably will never have the opportunity or even try, but I just feel that I wouldn't have a problem with it.

You've got a back yard don't you? All you need is 20 bags of charcoal and some lighter fluid. It might be a hit at your next block party.
Bonehead Idiots Is that like mass unhysteria?

Is it a problem with one's sole or one's soul?

BTW, I'm a member of group who has a few member who lead firewalks on a regular basis.
And there's a good episode of MythBusters on fire walking
I understand that when asked about the mishap, most of the victims were mum as they were adverse to being grilled!

I've learned over the years to "never say never".

But I'm very certain that I will NEVER voluntarily walk on hot coals, and I have to wonder about the sanity of anyone who would.
