help. pulled a groin muscle

Can anyone give me proper protocol?

I can go down stairs but not up… no strength in my right leg—have to use my pants- actually pull the pant up to make my leg move.

Leg is useless- couldn't even move it in bed last night (Trying to get comfortable) again- it'll go down my itself but won't move up-- even laying sideways.
ouchy
How long to heal? weeks or month?

Age sucks-- never happened before

tell me your pulled groin muscle stories please/ any help possible is appreciated
Sorry to hear it, Cat.

I've pulled many groins back in my Football days - usually it just hurt really bad and prevented me from playing but I could still walk on it with a limp. Perhaps your injury is more than a pull? Hope not.

Full recovery for muscle pulls can take a month but usually you dont need a full recovery to be able to perform day to day activities. My prescription: a week of epson salt baths, ice therapy, light massage, rest, and drinking lots of water.

Disclaimer: I am not a doctor, I dont play one on TV, and I once got a staff infection from operating on my own knee !
Those can be nasty - doctor would be the best judge. Could be 4 weeks
a few exercises someone at work gave me proved to them this is sciatica.

Stand 1 foot from the wall. (Back to wall)
Flatten back against said wall while sucking up your belly into your backbone.
Tuck chin down into chest...

I felt the area of pain right away when I flattened and tucked/ It's a sciatica flare up -- thanks boys and girls. I know how to deal w/ this:
Aleive
hot showers
heating pad
stretching
gentle conscience walking to get oxygen into my blood
no disco dancing for a while...

A torn groin is actually what ended my semipro soccer playing days many moons ago, so it's nothing to take lightly.

sounds like you're proceeding with caution, which is great. I alternated between hot and cold packs, some VERY light stretching, and do you belong to a gym? Try to see if you can ride an exercise bike, even at a vary slow pace. That stretches the muscle but also helps to build it back up.

I would give it 2 weeks. If it's not feeling any better, you should go to your doctor. He might want you to take an MRI to determine the severity of it. Not fun.

And although this is TMI (but I like you, 'Cat), it played havoc with my sex life...

JM, if you can't move your leg in bed what good are you?

If I could only get my hands on you.

You know, I'm known as "The Healer."

OK.

Seriously.

There are different tactics you can follow.

Rest and not annoying it by putting pressure on it is one way.
Adding a wrap (like an ace-type elastic bandage) will help.

The other tactic is like others have mentioned. Hot and cold packs. Very, very light stretching.
Soaking in a warm bath. All these should be done gingerly.

Chiropractor might be worth a visit if you don't start feeling better in a week.

Cold weather might have caused this, kiddo.

Take care and don't worry about the cause being old age. It can happen at any age.
I don't know nothing 'bout pulling no groin muscle -- but with sciatica I alternate a heating pad and a very cold compress. Relief is instantaneous.

This hits me about once every two years. I will creep around like Rufus T. Firefly for about four days, and then I'm fine. The hot/cold treatment makes it easier to walk and get in and out of bed or a chair or the bathtub.

During these flare-ups, sitting in one position for a long time is a big mistake. (Unfortunately, that's what most of us do for a living.)

Anyway, it sounds like you have it under control.
Yea, this episode was my most brutal one ever- before, I would get a burning pain but this time, it took the strength from my leg along w/ burinng pain.
I am most fortunate because my Sister is a Buddhist Qi Gung Energy Healer and my Brother just retired from the NIH as the chief in Staff of Recreational therapy for juvenile pyhsical disabilities-- so I get the right advice from both sides.

Meanwhile, 3 days of muscle relaxers and a long walk yesterday put Noahcat back together again bring it on...I'm back!!!

Here was some of sisters advice:

"so move the front of a hard chair-like an office or kitchen chair. Feet on the floor, hands on your knees, back straight.
solidify your core.
Rotate your spine (back) from the hip around in a circle to the right 3x slowly, then left. Then try circling from the waist but more gently but precisely, carefully, kind of lifting up and letting go as you go around, creating space.

The scrum goes “out” often from the mid back psios muscles the cross down the back to the scrum. Sometimes these muscles get imbalanced so moving them helps.
Walking uses those muscles so I am wondering if your stride is angled slightly or torqued to favor one side?
Try to notice. Off to bedie bye. Sending love"
this maybe the most informed medical string yet. anyway...another differential is bursitis of the femur. groin pulls are usually from some exertion, and sciatica is often associated with shooting pain down the outside of the leg. In another century, the standard for the bursitis was a shot; lately theres been some muttering about the long term damage from steroids in overuse injuries, and I can believe that's a risk. NC may have to recognize her limitations, eventually. Thanks for affirming the posts are useful for more than flaming strangers with impunity. Good luck, and be well!
