Hiking on the Iran border?

Have taken a great dislike for those 3. Has anyone ever heard the story as to what 3 rich American youths were doing "hiking near the Iran border"???
I have had this same thot--"Oh! I think I'll fly a few thousand miles to go hiking!
AND on the IRAN border!!!!" Hello!!!!!!!
Did anyone in the news business ever ask the obvious question? If they did I never heard it.
I would suspect the answer is pretty basic. These were college students. They want to see the world, especially places they feel the rest of us misunderstand.

Were they from the CIA? I doubt it.

Were they trying to get into or out of Iran? Possibly. There's a lot of buzz out there about how Iran wants to be our friend and they're pro-democracy but they have a few bad leaders and we antagonize them a lot. If we were only friendly.... Rick Steves, the European travel guy, even went to Iran to show us a different side of the country.

Sounded like a really BAD idea to me too.
So I asked The Kid, who graduated from Berk. too........
Said he wouldn't be hiking there either. He thought they were "stupid" to do so.

Sure seems to match well with your tagline.
How does one take a dislike to strangers you've never spoken to?

No drugs were found on them, no spycams, no micro film, no money...

They are college students- My neice went back packing in Europe for 6 months. Not my cup of tea but hey...it's a big world.

PS Are they rich..or are their parents rich? What story..? Tell us.

We antagonize them? Let's recap.

They attack our embassy - an act of war
They take the staff hostages for over a year
They call America evil
They arm and fund terrorists all over the world
They threaten to wipe out our principal ally in the Mideast
They are building a nuclear weapons program
They are developing missiles to reach the US
If it was just a few bad leaders they would have been kicked out of power years ago

That said, these 3 people were idiots to be anywhere near that part of the world
I'm not at all surprised that people who object to a Mosque being built on American soil also take exception to Americans hiking on Muslim soil. There is no sense arguing with them. How do you explain the color "blue" to someone who can only see black and white?

We attack Iraq and Afghanistan -- an act of war.
And everyone in Gitmo is guilty. Way more than a year.
We call Islam evil.
We arm and fund despots all over the world.
We threaten to wipe out, and do, certain regimes in their part of the world.
We're the only folks to use atomic weapons.
Only we can have them?
Maybe they want our guy, the Shah, back.

They would appear to be idiots.

Nothing I wrote above justifies 9/11. Of course a lot of what we did spawned 9/11. When wrapping yourself in the flag, hoops, try keeping it from covering your eyes. America is an awesome nation. We are not infallible.
