Hotel vs Airline Customer Svc

Did you challenge their measurement? Seems like the obvious thing to do, no?

2. So you're abandoning your "Allegiant purposefully screws us on the return-leg" conspiracy theory?

Allegiant is clearly purposefully screwing people and has attempted to purposefully screw people in the past. Examples include their near refusal to include the cost of taxes and fees in their initial web site pricing and the way their web site works to hide additional charges. When we landed in Fresno and I was waiting for my bag, there were no fewer than 5 people around me proclaiming that they would never fly Allegiant again....and all different reasons.
You don't seem to be tracking this part of our conversation.

You initially claimed that Allegiant has a policy of enforcing the carry-on limits on return flights, but not on outbound flights. You wrote "I think they purposly don't measure the bag on the outbound flight to snag you on the return when you have no other options." It seems you've abandoned that claim.

Which you should.

Dude, that's exactly where the idiot measured my carry-on bag...the Las Vegas Check-in Counter. I guess I need to travel with my own tape measure now.
Wow, okay, I've never experienced that, I take back my statement then. I fly a lot, yet I've never seen a check-in counter employee measure an unchecked bags that the passenger intends to carry onboard.

And now you're asking us to believe that the "idiot" used a measuring tape on your bag and found it too long? And you said nothing? You didn't ask to see the measurement?

Hmmm....

I've never flown Allegiant. But I know enough about them that I'd be prepared when I showed up at the airport, because their business model is to find ways to squeeze additional fees out of people. I'd know how big my carry-on was, and would be prepared to challenge their measurement, because Allegiant and Spirit are airlines that really target checked bags as profit points.

At a minimum, I'd at least want to measure for myself, something you apparently didn't do.

I'm prepared to believe that an Allegiant employee could suck at measuring, that could be true. But I'm not prepared to believe that Allegiant supplies employees with fake measuring tapes.
I pointed out that it had never been questioned before. She said I was just lucky in the past and it was an inch too tall. I continued to complain...but my complaint was 'why didn't they tell me in Fresno where I could have done something about it", not "Let me see that measurement". I didn't know how tall a carry-on should be. It's never been a problem for me in the past. I never once thought she didn't measure it correctly. It never even occurred to me until I read your comment on here. I don't know why. Shoot me.

'Bringing my own measuring tape' was sarcasm...I never said they have 'fake measuring tape'. What's your problem? Why are you so defensive of this airline? I'm pretty convinced they suck.

Now, since this topic is Hotel vs Airline customer service...Compare my check-in experience at Allegiant to my check in at Rio. The clerk at Rio was so nice, she gave us a free upgrade to a 1600 SF suite, just because it wasn't being used....and I'm sure if I had a problem with the room it wouldn't take them 2 months to get around to looking at it.
Allegiant should change their name to All Greed. The ever changing of their additional fare guidelines in order to pad their bottom line should be illegal and they should be fined for each incident. I will never fly their greedy airline.
ailines have that cage thing that says if your luggage doesn't fit in here- it's not carry-on.
No one is walking around w/ a tape measurer.

What have LVA become? I used to LOVE it here- needed to be here.
Where's the JOY?!??

Sorry...It's a sore issue with me. And every check-in clerk at Allegiant Airlines in Las Vegas does in fact have a tape measurer....they just don't know how to use them. I need to finish my trip report. It's a good one. That will perk things up.

Although not always the case, I have found that the hotel chains make a better effort at customer svc than the airlines

Regarding the OP observations, hotel service vs airline service:

1. Apples and oranges, different purposes, different rules and regulations to toe to. Can't really compare them, IMO.
2. Much more competetion in the hotel industry.
3. Face to face customer service is one of the few opportunities the airlines have to soften the brutalities we accept to travel faster: high prices, lines, cramped quarters, late take-offs/arrivals, schedules. Sounds like Allegiant ranks very low on that. Most of us agree that SWA knows how to interact with customers.
4. Airlines routinely lie? Haven't experienced that.

Yeah, seems you asked the wrong question. What may or may not have happened at Fresno days earlier really isn't relevant to how tall your bag was when you presented it to Allegiant in Las Vegas. That was a missed opportunity for you.

Please don't feel persecuted, you're stronger than that. If Allegiant follows up on your complaint, you should be prepared for questions like this. You should prepare for even tougher questions if you actually take a matter like this to small claims court over thirty five dollars.

I'm not defending them at all. I'm encouraging you to take some responsiblity for what you experienced. If, as you claim, your bag was within Allegiant's standards, one of the many Allegiant employees you encountered screwed up. Seems a few simple questions should have proven that and saved you all this terrible aggrivation and thirty five dollars.

I think it's more a case of

as are so many of your posts. But I have 'taken some responsibility' for what I experienced. Allegiant Air no longer has my $35. I am not obligated to pay that money until I hear otherwise. I'm betting the issue is already over. So there.

Wait a minute...I just got it. LVA has become 'Mudville'. And we all know "There is no Joy in Mudville'.
I guess when the political topics disappeared "chilly" decided he would just argue with folks on any other matter. Allegiant is probably owned by some friend of former Prez Bush!
