I Don't Think This Will Help [POL]

Obama Releases Birth Certificate

The problem, of course, is that proof and evidence are rational tools and only work for and against rational arguments.

The "birthers" believe that Obama is not a US citizen because... well... they just want to believe it. Just like the people who think Obama is a Muslim. It has nothing to do with facts.

There is literally no piece of evidence that will change the mind of someone with this mindset, so this latest document is essentially useless. I predict it will be dismissed out of hand as a forgery or something.

I appreciate the creativity of President Obama's detractors.

I'm anxious to find out what false controversy they'll invent next as a proxy for his race.

He wasn't born here! (He's black.)

He is a Muslim! (He's black.)

He's anticolonialist! (He's black.)

He worked to organize communities! (He's black.)

He pals around with terrorists! (He's black.)

He didn't deserve to go to Harvard, let alone edit its law review! (He's black.)

He's interested in college basketball! (He's black.)

That's an impressive list, one that lesser folks would struggle to expand.

Have to give them credit, they're good.

Its only a problem for the birthers. The reason the president has been reluctant to release the document until now is because he enjoyed letting the crazy people demonstrate to the rest of the country how crazy they were...on a daily basis.

Make no mistake about it - he did not release the document today to put those peoples' minds at ease. He released the document today to simply reveal the true colors of his ignorant, fear-mongeing critics who desperately cling to any conspiracy theory to undermine his legitimacy.

It is amusing that the Blowhard Dem/Libs can't go five minutes without starting a political thread even though it is against the rules. Maybe they feel that following rules violates their Civil Rights or something. Of course, I know people from the other side who can't follow rules either but that is not relevant to these boards. I am only commenting on a thread started by someone else. I have never started one of these threads.

Saying that everyone who dislikes Obama's policies only because he is half-black would be as stupid as accusing someone who dislikes Sarah Palin as being sexist. If Hillary had been elected and someone spoke against her, the Blowhards would say they are sexist.

For the record, I had no problem with Obama's birth. I'm glad he put the issue to rest so we don't have to hear about it anymore. I don't care for his politics but he would probably be a fun guy to hang out with and watch a game. Chilcoot will probably twist that into some sort of racist argument.
The rule about "no political threads" applies only to the Free-For-All. There is no such rule in the Kitchen Sink, where people tend to be civil. And where those who start political threads tend to include (POL) in the title, so that those who are not interested do not have to read them.
Try as you may, bambam's 43% Gallup approval numbers have nothing to do with him being black. They are due to the following:

1) 15 million Americans unemployed - several million of whom have never had a job since he became president.
2) 45 million Americans on welfare
3) Weekly jobless numbers remain over 400,000
4) GDP growth under 2% - one of the weakest post recession recoveries ever
5) $1,600 billion deficit
6) State & local govt's bankrupt
7) No coherent foreign policy
8) Oil approaching $120

But he has time to do another softball media interview, this time with oprah & attend 3 fundraisers in NYC

There's a reason why Sarah Palins' approval numbers are in the teens. Its because she panders to the birthers.
The scary thing to me is that the idiots who voted for Obama will probably vote for him again and reelect this blowhard. They did the same with Clinton and we are living with the results of him and NAFTA. I can still hear the "giant sucking sounds" of jobs leaving America.
I agree, it's likely that President Obama will be reelected.

Americans have voted in greater numbers for the Democrat in four of the past five elections (John Kerry was a crummy candidate and almost beat a wartime president, pretty amazing). Comforted by this general disposition of the public, President Obama has spent a lot of his political capital actually accomplishing things to improve the nation rather than horde it for the re-election campaign.

The things he invested his capital in aren't wildly popular with the short-term-oriented public, and the polls show that right now. But, much like his friend Steve Jobs, President Obama is a leader willing to lose battles to win wars.

Trump's rise demonstrates how justifiably unimpressed Republicans are in their actual candidates. For good reason. It'll be very difficult for a sensible GOPer to get through the lunatic gatekeepers of that nomination. I doubt one will, and whoever it is, they'll get clobbered by the adult in the room, President Obama.
