iPads are either novelty play things or great tools, depending on how a person plans to use it. Neither is a better/worse scenario. You have options for memory and 3g. Personally I'd not give a gift with 3g unless I knew the person was willing to take on a data plan. We went standard WiFi with Terri's iP2 since hot spots are pretty ubiquitous, and we both have iPhones if we truly need internet access in a pinch; we've used a phone as a hot spot as a test and it works but it is slow.

We got the Apple articulated leather screen cover. I've not tried it but last week the Journal had a bit about external keyboards and apparently Logitech has a combo carrying case/keyboard that the Journal recommended, and that would kill two birds with one stone. I'm pretty good using the touch screen but wouldn't want to write a dissertation on it.

Apple never deals.

I've decided its too hard getting a gift like that for someone else.
The oldest kid wanted one for his biggie BD Sun. I went investigating Ipads & discovered
100 different ones/scenarios........came away with......... I'm getting him something else! lol

They all have WiFi ... speaking of being an airhead. lol You're deciding if 3G should be added. I say no.

We went 32 gig. If we didn't have phones/iPod/computer we'd have gone 64.

Just had a big thread on this on the FFA. Lots of knowledgeable posters about this very subject (can search my name and thread is "IPAD'ers"). After a lot of investigating and others input,i went with the 16G samsung 10.1. Rock n rick ended up with the same thing as well. My deciding factor was the ipad wont play youtube videos,i guess apple and adobe don't get along,and that was pretty important to me. The ipad has more apps available,but who really needs 90,000 apps? The samsung has plenty available for it. In the end,both seemed pretty much the same otherwise. Hope this gives you a little more help whatever you do NC.
