Irony - Kansas Style (pol)

So the tea baggers in Congress demand massive government spending cuts. The government doesn't create jobs after all....

But now Boeing is going to close its Wichita, Kansas plant that employs a few thousand workers because the government contracts have been gutted....and the Kansas Congressmen are now furious at Boeing for not building tankers from the spending those same Congressman voted to slash.

Its the typical something for nothing philosophy of Republicans. They demonize government spending ...and then cry when cutting that spending kills jobs in thier hometown.

Kansas Congressman mad about Boeing

Yesterday, Sen. Heller (R-NV) praised the new control tower at Reno-Tahoe Int'l, saying it was "critically important", a necessity, and a "safety issue" for the area.

The tower was constructed last year as the result of a $27 million federal earmark.

But of course, Sen. Heller is opposed to earmarks.

I guess he just thinks air traffic control towers magically appear.

PJ - your facts are wrong. The tanker program is not being cut but the jobs are being moved from Kansas a right to work state to the unionized Washington plant, which just settled a labor dispute because Boeing wanted to build planes in SC. That plant was blocked by the NLRB - the first time the NLRB got involved in determining where a private company could build plants

Hoops, I'm afraid that you are the one that is wrong. The NLRB dispute was in regards to the South Carolina plant. Geography lesson: Wichita is in Kansas.

There is no reading of the tea-leaves required for Boeing's motivation. They warned in November the spending cuts would force them to close Wichita. And now they are delivering. And the tea-party champions that told us cutting spending would create jobs has now led to the exact oppositte...and in their own neighborhood no less.

Why Boeing is shutting the plant down.....
https://www.reuters.com/article/2012/01/04/us-boeing-wichita-idUSTRE8031CH20120104

"In this time of defense budget reductions, as well as shifting customer priorities, Boeing has decided to close its operations in Wichita to reduce costs, increase efficiencies, and drive competitiveness," said Mark Bass, vice president and general manager for the Maintenance, Modifications & Upgrades division of Boeing's defense, space and security segment."

I guess they should have been happy.

Terry

Wrong - you implied that the plane was not being built because of budget cut but Boeing is choosing to build the plane in unionized Washington; coinicidently right after a dispute with the NLRB

I never sasid anything about a plane....and again, the NLRB contract had absolutely nothing to do with Wichita, Kansas. Would you like to join the conversation regarding the tea in China? Boeing's reason's for closing the plant are a matter of record, not opinion.

Terry - perhaps the people of Wichita should look at the role their Tea-Party Congressman played in the plant closing. If he's angry he has nobody to blame but himself.
