IT guy till 2005, what do you think

I was an IT guy for many years and made the switch to something else in 2005.

This is my first membership back at the LVA forums since 2002.

Since then, this site has exploded, with so much FREE information, compared to back then. WOW!!

But.... I never remember the Forums loading so slow back then, and it seems to be a constant topic here.

So what do you think it is..... the slow loading?

My first thought was out dated severs and/or software.

Then a day ago, I learned about forum avatars, so I understand, everytime a page has to load, with all this avatar data, it is going to slow down, makes sense.

Then I read where someone else is using a different internet interface (unlike MS Explorer) and it loads suer quick.

So then I say it is not the data load, nor the Server hardware/software.

Then others that run forums sites that say they have no slow down problems like we have here...

Soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo..

Just for fun......

It has been asked here why they can't speed it up, and so maybe they can't.

What is your diagnosis, just for fun...

HW, SW, MS Explorer, Avatars added data load, Others???

Presuming you have a relatively newer PC and a fast internet connection you shouldn;t have any problems with avatars/ads/pics/etc.... If you are using a PC thats 10 years old with a dial-up connection then its a different story.

I sometimes experience slow days on LVA. Its hard to diagnose the issue without having access to the behind-the-scenes. Could be a bunch of diferent things: possibly a server issue....or perhaps its trying to link to an ad on a foreign server that is having issues.

Firefox. New computers, Mac and PC. High-speed providers have been ATT, Verison and Comcast. And this place is without fail the most unstable, slowest site I visit. Nothing else even comes close. Nothing.

Dude you were in IT and can't figure out getting a desired Avatar to work?

Dudett, that was over 5 years ago, and every three years 80% of the technology changes, give it a rest already.

I don't know much about this kind of stuff but I do know that photos (such as those in trip reports) can also slow the loading down at least somewhat.

That is quite true, and now knowing what adatars are, and how much they consume, based on old experience, it can add quite a load to the server.

Yet, what does not makes sense, and advances in Firefox that I have no clue about anymore, people say it loads fast, using Firefox.

For fun and giggles, I tried Google Chrome on this site, .... no difference...

So in honesty, I have not a clue about other web browsers, and how they work to make a difference today.
