Kitchen Plumbing advice needed

Greetings. I had a blockage on one side of my kitchen sink with 2 compartments. The side with the garbage disposal was blocked. The pluming under my sink is black plastic.........I tried the plunger plus baking soda and vinegar and both did not work. So...........Genius that I am ( LOL) I took the pipes apart underneath the sink and found the blockage in the pipe that went between the 2 drains...........It is all cleaned out.......My big question is that tomorrow morning when I attempt to put it all back together ...Do I need to seal the pipes with silicone as I rescrew the pieces together...........Any advice appreciated.......................... My plan is to take a short video on my I Phone and ask at Loews or Home Depot........and get some advice......I was so determined to fix this myself and not have the plumber come out.Even If I screw up ........I dont mind as I want to show myself that I can fix this!!!!!!!!
Not that my posting attracted any attention but that is no big deal but this project is coming along just fine ......I reassembled the black plastic( PVC ) pieces and am getting a small leak on the connection with the Pea Trap ( the U shaped bottom of the visible plumbing. I am going to unattach this along with the first plastic extension and bring it into Home Depot. They will match the side and cut a small piece of plastic pipe(PVC) to match what I bring in......This should do it when I do the reassemble which should be very quick.
Sorry I just saw this. I have also been learning plumbing lately so I can relate. PVC is easy to work with and you can tighten and loosen it with no tools so I love it. Sometimes you just need a new gasket. No need for silicone. I am becoming a regular at my ACO store. It is always best if you bring in the old part. it is amazing how they take a look at what you bring in and within seconds know exactly what you need.

I just fixed my toilet , I took off the tank and replaced the gaskets/bolts,flapper and rings. It took me 3 days but I was also happy I didn't have to pay the plumber. Accomplishing things solo is fulfilling. U tube has become my friend also LOL I think there is a how to video of everything known to man.

Best of luck on your plumbing adventures.
When we had a blocked sink I made matters a whole lot worse by trying to clear it with a plunger. So I had to get a plumber - who told me that my plastic pipes were not made to withstand the pressures generates by the plunger. I had, from upstairs, managed to blow one of the joints downstairs. The more I pumped the plunger, the more water came out in the rec.room. Lesson learned!

I agree about asking for help in the plumbing dept and Lowes or HD... most of those guys have worked in the business for years and are full of helpful information.

Once you have the problem fix may I suggest you check into a Vegas Hotel room with working plumbing for a few days of rehab.
I believe Blade has the best advice on this thread !!!
Thanks dfwgambler

diy.com is a great place to go for helpful info on how to fix most household problems. YouTube.com would be my next choice - but keep in mind, you're taking your chances. Not everyone on YouTube knows what they're talking about! LOL!!!!!
thedriz is right about YouTube.... some good help, but lots of people with no idea what they are doing. Too much Redneck Engineering.

I needed help with a refrigrator ice and water in door that was leaking. Most of the youtube videos were just ways to "rig" it instead of actually repairing the problem. Look for the professional looking videos
