MAD MEN!!!

Mad Men is back on tonight!! I am excited. Who else is ready for the return of Mad Men? Any predictions? I know a few of you are/were fans of the show!
I just finished watching it. Thought it was excellent. I'm hooked -- again! LOL

One of the many things I love about the show is the music they play over the closing credits -- a hit song from that era.

I didn't recognize Don's daughter at first -- she's really grown up a lot in the last 17 months. The civil rights movement is going to be big on the show, and that time in history fascinates me, as I remember it well. Oh, and I feel sorry for Joan.

Comments, anyone?
Sue, I also loved it...yes still hooked, as I thought I would be. It was a nice transition from the last season to this, after so much time has elapsed between them. I don't think Meghan knows what she has gotten herself into with Don. Feel sorry for Layne.......I always love Embeth Davis, but she is really good in this as his uptight, dry, proper British wife...he wants more. I love the way they have brought out his real, funny, passionate personality. He's complex especially his background. Now is baby Kevin, Joan's baby, Roger's? I kind of missed something from last season with that. I thought she had gone to have it taken care of. Yes, she will have her hands full. And I have a bad feeling that her husband will not make it back from Viet Nam.

That 2 hour season opener was excellent and went by very fast!!! And leave it to Trudy to name their baby Tammy.
I watched it.

First, about the music. It ended on Dusty Springfield I think, "You don't have to love me."
Two other music notes: the band at the party did an intrumental version of "Walk on By". I like Bacharach, so I noticed.
Second, I was curious who made Zoobie Zoobie Zoo famous, internet says Sophia Loren. One character described it as a burlesque number, I'd say "torch". I liked it.

About the episode. I didn't watch last season, had tired of it the season before. To me, Mad Men can be a like a bad date, lots of teases and promises and suggestions but never culminates in anything signifcant.

For example, a big theme of last night was the money problems of the firm juxtaposed to Roger's handing out money like slapper porn. In the past, a theme or thread like this led to a big nowhere. I fear it will again. It's style over substance.

What I appreciate about the writing is the race issues is juxtaposed to the gender issue. The black men being told they can leave because they were hiring a secretary. Or Joan's mom saying that Joan's husband might not allow her to work. But will there be any resolution to all of this or is it just landscape? And I want characters to evolve -- at least some of them to change.

I liked that Peggy was uncomfortable holding the baby. And the inside joke about her handing the baby off to Pete was funny.

Another problem I have, I'm finding Don to be a yahoo. He has always been morally ambiguous, but I want him to be a sympathetic character. He's not. Look how he reacted to Megan after the party. He explains, he doesn't want to be center of attention. But it's not always about you, you egotistical moron.

Finally, even though I didn't see any of the last season, I don't think I missed a thing. It feels exactly the same.

TB, I don't think there WAS a last season. I didn't see much other than re-runs.

Anyway...an intersting scene for me, when Roger looked a long time at Joan's baby...like, "does/is this kid gonna look like me?"
What started on Sunday was season 5. I gave up after Season 3. I'm not even sure Joan was married when I stopped following the show. I did catch a few episodes of Season 4, but for the most part don't know much about it. It was in Season 3 then 4 when the show seemed to move on and drop issues raised in Season 1 and 2.
