Movies, anyone?

How about the greatest movie about college life - Animal House
Christmas Vacation was on Comedy Central this past weekend.... a little late season but still watched it for about the 1000th time and enjoyed it.

The Help is worth the small investment to rent or buy.

We've been going to an old downtown grand theater that shows movies that have recently been kicked out of the premiere mega theaters. Can't beat the $2.50 admission and great popcorn. Good way to catch some new releases you missed or would like to see again.

If you want to go to a movie theatre:
The movies I'm recommending aren't quite in the same category of the types of movies you saw. But I heard they're good (and I hope to see them soon):

"We Bought a Zoo" w/Matt Damon
"The Descendants" w/George Clooney

If you liked "The Help" and want to rent/find on TV, my personal favorite to suggest is "The Secret Life of Bees" w/Jennifer Hudson, Dakota Fanning, Queen Latifah & Alicia Keys. A great drama movie to watch!

Hope this helps!
When the Secret Life of Bees came out a few years ago I took my whole class on a fieldtrip to see it (which meant I had to pay for all of the tickets.) We had read the book in class.

When I mention the movie to others they say they've never heard of it! It is definitely a good movie!!

Connie, you'll have to let us know what movies you decided to see and what you thought of them. I like hearing what the average person thinks of them. Movie critics that are published usually have different opinions than me.
I giggled my ass off last night watching cable....I have the funniest movie of the year:

"Ticked off Trannies with Knives"

Its a Grindhouse movie filled with lots of one liners, action, and raunchiness. All of the characters have funny names....my favorite one was called "Rachael Slur" (a play on "racial slur")
....and then there was Dr Latio, but please call him Phil.

The plot starts off by one of the "girls" getting raped by some thugs. She then proceeds to round up her "girlfriends" to get some payback.
Just got back from seeing the movie "Joyful noise" and thought it was very good.
I saw The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. I enjoyed the movie greatly. A warning, the movie is graphic (violence) at times. But the violence is appropriate in the context. I read the books recently and thought them enjoyable but the plots sloppy. I think the movie was better than the book. It dropped much of the superfluous. Mara Rooney deserve an oscar for her protrayal. It was exceptional. However, the chance of a woman winning an Oscar when she showed that much of her naked body is unlikely, I figure.
I did go see The Girl With the Dragaon Tattoo. Thought the violence was appopriate reflection of the plot from the book. I liked the movie a lot--found the characters pretty engaging. The popcorn woman at our theatre had gotten a haircut and color much like Mara Rooney's.

Loved Sherlock Holmes, of course.

Went to see The ARtist tonight and thoroughly enjoyed it. It makes use of the great visuals of Film Noire. I liked the scene transitions and wipes that were used a couple of times. I also loved the scene on the stairway at the movie theatre that pulls back to show three floors of the movie production offices with great bannisters that I suppose are arte nouveau or art deco. The camera shot of all the bustle going on on the three stairways reminded me of Hitchcock's shooting through the glass ceiling/ floor in some movie. (The Lodger, maybe) Thought we would go to that one in case it left Iowa City after a week, but there was a decent turnout for a 4 p.m. show on a snow day.

"Loved Sherlock Holmes"

Unless you're talking about the Grenada TV series or 7 Per Cent Solution, I'm marking you as an uncredible movie critic.
Ugh! Can any respect the dead man's legacy!
