Mr. 3,000

per the letters in the Daily News:

MR. 3,000 IS THE NAME HE HOLDS NOW,
FIVE FOR FIVE: HOLY COW
CONGRATS TO THIS CLASSY AND HUMBLE MAN
FOR JUST A DAY, I WAS A YANKEES FAN
"Jeter" is a pejorative in my house.
If you're mad at someone, you cuss at them.
If you're REALLY mad at someone, you call them a "jeter"
He's one of the true victims of the steroid era of baseball. There are no allegations that he used them and he almost certainly didn't...but since so many players from the 90's/00's did and there was no real enforcement then there will always be question marks over everyone's head.

No good deed goes unpunished. In the days leading up to the blessed event there were articles critical of Jeter for being ... too nice and softspoken and for not taking stands on issues controversial or merely stupid (as is the case with far too many athletes).

WTF?

Through the fog of what baseball allowed itself to be, there are a few Jeters and Juniors who could see the right way to do it.

As a Red Sox fan, I have to tip my hat to Jeter. Hate him because he's a Yankee, but have to respect him as a ball player. He's played the game right. Kudos.
Flip, no need to sell out the Sox to be right, accurate and true.
He's still a Yankee.
Points for loyality

He's ALWAYS been a Yankee/ hope to Jeterize some DDP STP w/ cheese machines in Vega$$$
Always been a class act, EXCEPT for his skipping this year's All Star Game. Sorry, no excuse for that. Physically and mentally exhausted? Give me a break. He was out for three weeks and plays six games before the A.S. Game and now he can't go??? Big mistake.

He didn't belong on the team anyway with a 260 average.

A great player though!
