Name the song the line is from Part II

More lyrics:

My friends are telling me that he's no good
He isn't treating me the way he should
He really loves me, that's all I can say
Before my tears fall, I just walk away

Obviously a female artist. Most of her recording success occurred in the 1963-65 time period, during which she scored six top-20 hits, including one #1 and one #2. This song topped out at #14.

Her time in the spotlight may have been brief but, hey, it was her party.

OK, 1964 works for me:

He really loves me, that's all I can say

Don't think I would have got that one had it not been for the Mercury Label connection.
I believe that was Lesley Gore singing Maybe I know.

OK - So I can't help noticing that recently my posts are like the kiss of death on this thread. That really isn't my intent - I will not post the obvious but I am trying to post lines that the regular posters will get - with maybe a little bit of digging.
I really don't want to stall it - which is why I never repost if nobody get's it - I open it up to someone else to post. I'm working on it - just trying to find the balance between obscure and obvious. So please bear with me - My musical experiences come from a different place - but I am researching and trying to make my challenges relevant. This is a fun thread - and I really do want to keep it that way. I just have to get my head around the notion that every time I sumbit what I think is a Freebie, or a Giveaway - no-one guesses it. Hmmm . . . . What to do . . .

Tony,
I think we ( The Royal "We") as I speak for myself...appreciate your choices as you have lots of huge musicallility and a huge knowledge and base- I know how you feel;
I give what i think are main stay simple and no one gets it (Rocky Horror Picture Show Timewarp) for one...

If it stalls, it stalls-- this is a fun friend game and again - I for one- enjoy the brain teasers

do you know one one my all time faves???? i would think you do...
It stung no one got it here and that was 3 years ago but you might.
Here:

I feel inclined to blow my mind
Get hung up, feed the ducks with a bun
They all come out to groove about
Be nice and have fun in the sun

I'll tell you what I'll do, what will you do?
I'd like to go there now with you
You can miss out school, won't that be cool
Why go to learn the words of fools?

What will we do there? We'll get high
What will we touch there? We'll touch the sky
But why the tears there? I'll tell you why
It's all too beautiful, it's all too beautiful
It's all too beautiful, it's all too beautiful

'Cat if you used those lyrics, I can't imagine that I wouldn't have guessed the song. It's Itchycoo Park, by Small Faces.

Three years ago, the thread had just started. I dunno, maybe I wasn't participating yet, but I'm sure I would have guessed that.

Thanks, I appreciate it.
As for the song - an absolute favourite - The Small Faces - Itchcoo Park

Some more clues for my song -

Late 70's

A year has passed since I wrote my note,
But I should have known this right from the start.

Here are the opening lines

Just a castaway, on an island lost at sea,
Another lonely day, with no one here but me.

The vocalist, who played bass, went on to even bigger & better things.

Tonyrob

Oops - I see Jim beat me to it - that's the problem of doing it at work and having to leave it open to deal with clients

That's Message In A Bottle, by The Police. The vocalist/bassist who went on to bigger and better things was Sting, of course.

Tony, I just revisited your six most recent lyrics posts, including this last one. You had four that were guessed, and two that bombed. For one thing, your "bomb-out rate" is about the same as mine, lol, but let's take a closer look at the UK and US chart positions for the two that didn't work:

  • Suzi Quatro - Devil Gate Drive - #1 in UK, DNC (did not chart) in US

  • Flower Pot Men - Let's Go To San Francisco - #4 in UK, DNC in US

Notice that both were major hits in the UK that failed to chart in the US. That would mean that both got little or no US airplay, which probably explains why folks on this side of the pond don't know 'em.

I offer that for what it's worth.

OK, this one's from 1985 (US #1, UK #12, lol):

She makes me nervous and makes me scared
But I feel so good if I just say the word

Edit: In this case, it was the drummer who went on to bigger and better things.

OK - I have the singer now - but drawing blank on the song

Tony, the song’s four-syllable one-word title is basically gibberish, dreamed up to fit a track the artist had programmed into a drum machine.
