Name the song the line is from Part II

That be ”Bennie And The Jets” by you-know-who.

Let’s stay in 1973 for this:

So baby, don't expect to see me
with no double martini
in any high-brow society news

Believe it or not, I had a difficult time with that one. You just never know, I guess.

It's a great song -- Workin' At The Car Wash Blues, by Jim Croce. Stop posting such tough ones!

OK, this is from 1965 (US#2, UK#5):

Someday, we shall return
to this place upon the meadow

Lovers Concerto - Supremes - Great song! There were a couple of good covers as well.

Hi - finally catching on - don't ramble on about who did it and other info - because someone else jumps in while all that is going on Just Jump in - say me - then go back and edit at leisure Ha! lol

************ NEW ****************

with a slack jaw and not much to say

Good one! That's Down Under, by Men At Work.

Tony, if it wasn't for that song, I probably still wouldn't have figured out what vegemite is, lol.

This one is from 1979:

You can laugh at my behavior
That'll never bother me
Say the devil is my savior
But I don't pay no heed

I’m going to be out for a while this afternoon, so I’m leaving some additional lines and a few hints. As you can see, the song has a two-word title:

Now some they do and some they don’t
And some you just can’t tell
And some they will and some they won’t
With some it’s just as well

You can laugh at my behavior
That’ll never bother me
Say the devil is my savior
But I don’t pay no heed

And I will go on shining
Shining like brand new
I’ll never look behind me
My troubles will be few

_______ ________, it’s been nice
Hope you find your paradise

This is a British band that formed in 1969, under the name Daddy. They adopted their current one-word name in 1970.

This song is from a very popular 1979 album that placed #1 and #3, respectively, on the US and UK album charts. The song was the third track on the album, and was released as a single in the summer of 1979.

Some of the songs on the album deal with the band members’ impressions of the US, gleaned while touring and recording in the States. In the final two lines above, they bid farewell to America.

I can be dense sometimes, Jim. Those extra lines sure help though. I believe it’s “Goodbye Stranger” by… I thought their name was Super Tramp, but that’s two words. It might be someone else. Oh well I think I got the title, didn’t I?.

Let’s do a duet:

And we got nothing to be sorry for
Our love is one in a million

I knew what group sang the first line but not the title.
hint...it wasn't a long title to remember
That's a nice duet, Cyn.

Pretty sure it's Guilty, by Barb and Barry. Streisand and Gibb, that is.

We recently did a song by a group that bears the same name as its lead singer. This 1990 tune (#1 US, #13 UK) was a solo effort by that same singer:

Well, I've seen love come
I've seen it shot down
I've seen it die in vain

Hmmm…let’s see if some hints and additional lines will help.

The artist in question here is the lead singer for a very popular and successful band formed in 1983 in Sayreville, NJ. As far as I know, the band is still active today.

In 1990, the singer was approached and asked for permission to use one of the band’s earlier songs (the same one that showed up recently on this thread) in a movie that would be starring Emilio Estevez, Kiefer Sutherland, Lou Diamond Phillips, and Christian Slater.

Feeling that the lyrics for that song were not a good fit, the singer decided to compose a new one, and this was the result. He sang it as a solo effort, and gave it a three-word title.

Here are more lines:

You ask me if I’ve known love
And what it’s like to sing songs in the rain
Well, I’ve seen love come
I’ve seen it shot down
I’ve seen it die in vain

Shot down, in a _____ __ _____
Take me now, but know the truth
‘Cause I’m goin’ down in a _____ __ _____
Lord, I never drew first
But I drew first blood
I’m the devil’s son
Call me young gun

BTW, the singer made a cameo appearance in the film.
