Come to think of it, Diana Ross could have said this:

Well, there's Flo on my left and there's Mary on my right

How true! That's a neat observation, Cyn!

Funny that Dion said it in The Wanderer.

OK, this was a 1989 single from a late-1988 album:

Think about direction
Wonder why you haven't before

I feel uncertain about this one, even though it was a #6 hit in the US, soooo...here's a hint: three years later, this band would be losing its religion.

Well, poop. Now I know why I had a bad feeling about this one. Here’s more info:

The band formed in Athens, GA, in 1980.

The song has a one-word title, and urges the listener to become more involved in the places in which s/he lives and works:

_____ in the place where you live
Now face North
Think about direction
Wonder why you haven't before
Now _____ in the place where you work
Now face West
Think about the place where you live
Wonder why you haven't before

Oh, and there’s one more thing. Weird Al Yankovic did a parody of the song, which he titled Spam.

If this doesn’t do it, I’ll give up the song before I hit the hay tonight.

Haven't been watching, so I don't know if anyone's even seen the latest hints, but I think I'm going to give that one up anyway.

It was Stand, by R.E.M.

Maybe this one from 1970 will do better:

This time the girl is gonna stay
This time the girl is gonna stay
For more than just a day

Edit: Added another line to make it sound a little more like the real deal.

That one is “I Just Can’t Help Believing” by B.J. Thomas. That’s a nice one, Jim.

Here’s a big one from 1978:

I’d like to meet his tailor

That's Warren Zevon, doing Werewolves Of London. Aaahooooo!

Great song!

From 1974:

I'm growing tired
And time stands still before me

That’s a great song, Jim. It’s “Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me” by Elton John.

I sure like this one from 1972:

Papa said, “Oy! If I get that boy
I’m gonna stick him in the house of detention”

One of my favourites, too: Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard by Paul Simon. I was lucky enough to see him play it live a few years ago.

Here is one from the 60s that's been covered several times:

Didn't think I'd do, but now I see
She's worse to him than me
sorry, double post

Great memory there, slowpoke!

It's Needles and Pins. I think the Searchers made it a hit back in the 60s. If I'm not mistaken, they made it sound like "needles and pins-a".

How 'bout some 70s:

I'm just looking for clues at the scene of the crime

Jim,
I couldn't hope to top yours. I bow to the winner.

Thanks, Ben. Glad you enjoyed it, but I'm not kidding myself -- Phil will get even.

Just got back fom my in-laws and that's the funniest thing I've seen or read all day. Thanks Jim.
