Noooooo. Now that must be a fascinating story that I'd guess we'd all like to hear sometime, JM, whenever you're in the mood to tell it. I mean that seriously.

Cyndee, your lyrics are from Our Lips Are Sealed, by the Go-Go's. Some critics said they were musical lightweights, but I liked 'em. Gimme music I can whistle while I'm walking around, and I'll probably like it.

OK, 80s it is. If wikipedia is to be believed, the music video associated with this 1986 song was the most expensive one ever produced up until that time. As you might guess, there was a reason for that, and there's even a hint about it in the lyrics:

The room is hot, and that's good
Some of my friends came by from the neighborhood
The people startin' to climb the walls
Ooh, it looks like everybody is having a ball

Yes, I’d like to know all about N’cat’s adventures touring with the Platters. Do tell.

Jim, I’m sure that that video was expensive. But I think a Fred Astaire movie did that trick first. Anyway, I kind of liked “Dancing on the ceiling” by Lionel Richie.

Here’s some 1979:

Oh Mama, I've been years on the lam
and had a high price on my head
Lawman said 'Get him dead or alive'
and it's for sure he'll see me dead

Hey Cyn, I remember being blown away when I first saw Lionel Richie literally "dancing on the ceiling."

I was even more impressed when I read about the elaborate video set with the rotating room, camera tripod bolted to the floor, that made it appear as if Lionel was defying gravity.

Then I learned that Fred Astaire had done the whole damn thing 35 years earlier, in a 1951 movie. Bummer. Another of life's disappointments.

Anyway, your lyrics are from Renegade, by Styx. As I recall, they were a Chicago band, and I still lived in Detroit at the time, so I considered them to be, like, sorta from "next door," lol.

This one is from the mid-70s:

When I was young
I never needed anyone
And makin' love was just for fun
Those days are gone

When I was young
I never needed anyone
And makin' love was just for fun
Those days are gone

Looks like that one isn't working. Can't come up with any good hints, so I'll just give it up.

It was All By Myself, by Eric Carmen, a #2 hit in 1975.

Let's try this one, from 1972:

Yeah, I'm lookin' for the king of 42nd Street
He drivin' a drop-top Cadillac
Last week he took all my money
And it may sound funny
But I come to get my money back

I grew up listening to/ Eric Carmen and Joe Walsh when he was in James Gang and Eric was in Raspberries back in Westlake, Ohio- they both played a tiny place we got to go to when I was 15/16 called Cyrus Erie.. we'd dance ourselves silly til midnight when one of our parents would pick up us.

You don't mess @ w/ Jim
Jim Croce-- ah..the good old days of a record player

Lyrics:
"It's Christmas Time in the City"
"Silver Bells" Don't know who sang it -- everybody did, probably, lol.

"Somehow I knew at a glance
the terrible chances I'm taking"
OK, I'll add a couple of lines ...

"Somehow I knew at a glance
the terrible chances I'm taking,
Fine at the start, but left with
a heart that is breaking"

Jim's Eric Carmen lyric rattled around in my head- I was hearing a high tenor right away- and I finally came up with it but too late. Yours sounded like my vintage, but no voice came to mind. So I Googled it and found that it's actually a country lyric written by a guy from Brooklyn.

Brooklyn, Nova Scotia to be exact.

that's My MOTHER'S Favortie song

I have it by Harry Nielsen but its a classic american standard- NEVERTHELESS

Here's one for Sue- a recent Kennedy Center award winner:

I've always had a bottle I could turn to
And lately I've been turning everyday
But the wind don't take effect the way it used to
And I'm hurting in an old familiar way

Is that a Merle Haggard song? I know I've heard it, but can't place the lyrics in a specific song. He's sung so many drinking songs, lol. Maybe "Tonight the Bottle Let Me Down?"

Bard, what song are you talking about that's country? Surely not "Nevertheless???" I've never heard it on a country station -- it's a classic, but not country.
