Name the song the line is from Part II

Sorry, Bard.

Wrong song and wrong artist. Let me give a few hints.

This artist has her place history, not only for her wildly popular records, but also as the only featured singer performing at the last presidential inauguration.

This song debuted at #32 on the Hot 100, peaking at #5 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles chart and spent three weeks at number-one on the Hot Rhythm & Blues Singles chart.

Some more lines:

I tell you that just be true
and give me just a little time
Wait on me baby,
I want you to be all mine
I just get so blue

Well, Aretha sang at the inaug but I have no idea about those lyrics.

Love songs are the music I know least about, aside from opera, plus the words in that subspecies are all so similar from song to song.
Okay, I got it.

"Bama, Bama, Bama, I love you"

Hello, everyone. Not getting much chance to log on lately. Sometimes, real life intervenes. I hate when that happens.

As far as Aretha songs go, Baby I Love You would have been a decent guess. But, I'm pretty sure Cyn's lyrics are from a different one.

It's Since You've Been Gone.

This one was a #3 hit in 1961, which, admittedly, was a long time ago. Let's see if anyone remembers:

Love will make you happy
And love will make you cry
Love will make the tears fall
When your lover says goodbye

Nice one, Jim.

That’s “My true story” by The Jive Five.

Sure, I remember the song (Not the year, mind you.) I just heard it yesterday. I have mentioned this before, but it deserves repeating. I listen to Playa Cofi Jukebox a lot. It plays popular songs from 1950 to 1989 in the background while you work in other applications. You can play whatever year you are in the mood for. There are also blocks of five years that mix all the songs up over those five years. I just love it.

For those who are interested

Step back just a little more:

1958:
Who's sad and blue
who's crying too
Just like I cried over you
That's Who's Sorry Now, by Connie Francis.

Sorry, I don't have any new lyrics in mind at the moment.
OK, here's an easy one from 1969. One line should suffice:

I can't tell ya who to sock it to

(Thank you for the link to the jukebox site, Cyndee. Very nice, indeed. I obviously was not paying enough attention when you mentioned it before.)

It's Your Thing by the Isley Brothers. I feel really old for knowing that. Here is another one from 1969.

He kicked like a mule and he bit like a crocodile
A Boy Named Sue by Johnny Cash. Had to repeat he line about a dzen times before it caught.

lyrics to follow

Can't you just feel the moonshine
Ain't it just like a friend of mine

That’s “Carolina in my mind” by James Taylor.

In a couple of years,
They have built a home sweet home
with a couple kids running in the yard
of Desmond and Molly Jones
