Why is it everytime a celebrity screws up a lot of people dig for excuses to excuse them. Poor Charlie Sheen, Poor Paris Hilton, Poor Lindsay Lohan, and now Poor Christina. Guess that what they mean when they say "THE DEVIL MADE ME DO IT" WHY CAN THEY JUST NOT FACE THE FACTS SHE SCREWED UP AND LEAVE IT.

I think Christina is the only person on your list that anyone has defended. Is there anyone left on the planet rooting for Lindsay Lohan?

Unlike the other people on your list Christina wasn't drunk or face deep into a pile of cocaine - she just choked under pressure. Thats forgiveable in my book - but it doesn't have to be in yours.

Are you sure she wasn't drunk? Did you take a drug test?
pjstroh--I may ask you the same question. Can you be 100% sure she was not 1. drunk or 2. high on some type of drug. Choking is just another way of getting around she screwed up. Choking is forgiveable but not to the place people start sending up smoke screens like changing the National Anthem. By the way I have heard many people say Poor Lindsay it not all her fault. Another example Charlie Sheen resent problems you hear people around him should have seen this coming. Paris is just a case beyond comments.

No, I dont know if she was drunk or high. I'm not in the habit of presuming someone has an abuse problem without having some kind of evidence to that affect. She has no record of any such abuse in the past and even the tabloids confess she is squeaky clean. I think that should earn her the benefit of the doubt, dont you?

People who are quick to label Ms Aguilera as "unpatriotic" should note the massive time and fortune she has contributed to charitable causes for the environment, gay community, spousal abuse victims, and Haitian Earthquake Victims. If everyone contributed as much our country would be a much better place.

Wow, did this go south fast. See what you started Berferd?

For those making allegations against Ms Aguilera.......gee, and here I thought we were in the US where the doctrine is innocent unless proven guilty. Please provide the proof, many of us dying to see it.

As for the performance, not my favorite even without the mistake. However Ms Aguilera could have taken the safe route others have and lip synched to a recording. Instead she said she felt it an honor and wanted to perform it live.

She screwed up and she admitted it. I guess others have never screwed up under pressure.

And finally she meant no disrespect in her performance which cant be said for all.

I still like a good musical presentation sans singer

I've no problem with a forgotten lyrics or a flubbed note. That's live music for you. No big deal.

What made Christina's performance the third worst of Super Bowl XLV*, as far as I'm concerned, weren't the accidents. It was the crap she did on purpose. All those tasteless runs and flourishes.

It's the national anthem, not an American Idol audition, fer-cryin-out-loud. I know it's not the best melody in the world, but you should still at least try to sing some of the actual notes in it.

* Second-worst performance was the Black-Eyed Peas. Absolute worst was Ben Roethlisberger.
pjstroh--please stand corrected no where did I make a comment or post anyhting about Ms. Aguilera being unpatriotic. My comments were simply she screwed the Anthem up and ran second to Roseann Barr as being the worst. You made the comment that she was not drunk or high like others on my list. I simply questioned as to how you were sure of that. I did not suggest we change the National Anthem. I did suggest that the song to start with is very difficult to sing and suggested that someone needs to pay more attention in to the selection process before the entire world is sitting back laughing at us. I will stand firmly on the fact she screwed up and did not choke. The expressions on some of the players faces at the time told the story. I'm sure people on the board have more important things to view other than this topic. Some want to change the National Anthem some want a military band to play it and the list could go on and on. Each to their own opinion is fine with me.

Just so I understand.

You demand people PROVE their presumption she was sober in order to make such a statement.
But you dont have to PROVE her error was careless in nature as oppossed to being an honest mistake.

You must be lots of fun at jury duty..

I think we should take a moment to enjoy one of my personal favorite performances of the National Anthem. Certainly better than how Christina Aguilera did it:

As oppossed to the Star Spangled Banner being the same tune as a british drinking song?
