There is a Riverfront Mall accross the street from McHarrah's. Has at least 5 shoe stores in it and it is a relatively small mall all along the river.
Best kept secret is the Cafe DuMonde inside it with generally no or a very short line.
You lose the atmosphere of the original but the Bignets are the same and you can sit and look at the Mississippi as you eat them and no long wait just to be seated in an overcrowded room to then wait again for your Bignets.

One of John Besh's restaurants is inside the McHarrah's.
I have eaten there a few times.
Once when I was traveling alone I ate at the bar.
Service was great and the bartender was fabulous.
He introduced me to Cosmos'
I even came home with 4 of the glasses they used to serve them because I fell in love with the drink.
Paid for dinner and the glasses with reward credits. Score.

Hope you are staying in the Harrah's hotel.
The rooms are great and there is an underground tunnel to cross the street into the Casino.

Paul LOVES the barbequed/Grilled oysters at Drago's inside the Hilton which is accross the street from Harrah's. They are much like Escargot with lots of butter, garlic, and parmesan cheese on top and served with wonderful french bread.

I also heard the WWII museum was a winner. Told I would need at least 1/2 of a day there.

Have fun and be safe!

CarBurpo, thanks!

Commanders Palace offers 25c martinis (limit 3) with entree on their lunch menu. Can you guess which one I'll be drinking?
Question regarding getting there - has anyone flown Frontier ailines? The other night their fare on priceline was $100 less than Southwest.

Frontier. GREAT inflight magazine!
Stay at the Royal Sonesta Hotel Ask for a courtyard room.
We took a swamp tour that the hotel concierge setup and it was a blast.

There is a place called WINO that allows you to taste some great wines by the class.
Ya buy a credit card type thing and use it to dispense over 120 different wines. They have food there too, spent about 2 hours getting drunk and having fun.

Cjwonch, thanks for the links and suggestions!
We went for a week one time a long time agp,12-25yrs?) and had a blast. I'll second the steamboat ride, that was definitely worth the time. I don't remember a lot of specifics about what all we did because we never had a plan. We stayed at a really nice place about 10 blocks from the FQ withe the trolley line right on the front doorstep so that mad getting around super easy. We ended up walking and exploring all over,we stopped and ate when we were hungry or would pop in any bar that we heard a band playing inside, and drank.A LOT. Probably why don't recall specific names. It was great just walking around with no agenda, doing what we wanted when we felt like it. I do remember walkingby the hustler strip club and the guy saying they would hire my wife,gee...thanks?

Sorry i didn't really have much to add but i wanted to chime in on cafe de monde. I know its quite popular and a "must" do,but i have to say it was by far thee worst experience we've ever had in an establishmant.
We were also told you HAVE to go to CFD like everyone else. Well,we went and when we got there it was pretty full but not completely, there were a dozen or so tables that hadn;t been cleared and the line wasn't very long, cool so we waited. and waited. and waited. We stood there and watched people leave and tables still not cleared. All this time the wait staff was gathered near the back BS'ing. One or two would break away occasionally and clear a few tables and seat a couple folks. Now i have a pretty high tolerance for lazy idiots but this was wearing on me pretty bad. More waiting and more staring at empty dirty tables all while watching these people just standing there!,i saw a few step outside and smoke. By the time we finally got seated 45 -60 minutes later i was so steaming it was ridiculous and i know better than to let this kind of crap get to me so much but man it was all i could do to not blow my top. To this day i have never seen such gross incompetence/apathy/laziness displayed anywhere, not even close.
To top it off we don't even drink coffee and those fried things were OK i suppose but to me thats all they were, fried dough things with powdered sugar. Sorry to be the nabob, but just thought was worthwhile to share.
