NOLA

We ended up going to Both Cafedumondes, before & after cruise. Both are fine.
Both easy walking distance from Harrahs.

One great suggestion the Harr bellman gave us, was to take a Horse carriage ride Tour.
He pointed the way, and we walked to it. Maybe 15 min. walk on Sunday morning. Very nice.
Tour is informal, just show up, and you hop on the first horse Carriage in Line.
Takes 30 mins & costs $15 per person. Totally Worth it.

The horses (actually mules) are just across the street from the big Cafe Du Monde.
Can't miss 'em. Gives you a really good overview of the French Market Dist, nearby Bourbon St.,
and history of the area.
Highly recommend, easy way to get the layout before you go exploring on your own.

Also, Watch where you walk on Bourbon St. Really glad we were there during the day, and the
sidewalks were freshly Washed-off.

Oh man, I don't know how we missed the horses. That sounds like anawesome way to get your bearings and we certainly could've used that. Our first day, after checking in and getting settled we decided to go hop on the trolley and head for the french quarter!, WOW, how exciting this is. the trolley ride seemed like it was taking a long time to get there, we should've been a few blocks away from the FQ so we keep going and going. Finally, the end in sight. We get off the trolley, wait a min ute, this doesn't look like anything i've ever seen. Theres a CVS and some other little store. Quickly found out we went the wrong way. My wife still pokes fun at me on that one. After another half hour or so, made it to the FQ, got a clod beer and started exploring. SHEWWW, hows that for going OT.
I can certainly imagine that the carraige ride is well worth it and good tip, well as long as the horse hasn't been eating beef-a-roni

JOHN
Iamrice, CLV and jatki99, thanks.

Lots of people in my life at one time or another lived in NOLA and have offered many suggestions. One was the carriage ride. CLV, thanks for report.
I need to get back to one of them for the name of the place that is known for making hurricanes from real juice, not the mix Pat O'Brien's uses.
We walked past Pat O'Briens & I took a pic of it. All Green & White banners. It was the morning After
St.Pats Day, so hence, another good reason to wash off all the sidewalks. lol
The more I think about it, really glad we were there during the Daytime!

I've been reading old trip reports. Fun, Fun, Fun.

I checked with Harrahs NOLA and can use reward credits 1 to 1 at the following, "Restaurants that are 1/1 ratio would be Besh Steak, Bambu, Buffet, and Manning's or any other small outlets inside the casino. Everything else will be 2/1 ratio."

I look forward to trying Besh Steak.
We had to leave to go to the airport.........Besh opened at 5pm, so we missed it this trip.
How soon do you go L ?
NOLA Restaurant or Mr. B's Bistro, most likely will go for lunch.

If you had to choose, which one and why? TIA.
Try a Pimms cup from napoleons and Mothers is a quick walk from Harrahs and the food is great.

A tip about cafe du monde, you seat yourself inside and you have to take a seat at a dirty table and then they will come and clean it off and take your order. It's counterintuitive I know, but that's how it's worked the times we've gone and we got this info from a local.

Beth, thank you!
Working on the final details of the trip and have a silly question about the weather. If forecast says chance of scattered thunderstorms, does it usually rain for an hour or so in late afternoon similar to Puerta Vallarta and other places in Mexico or is it an all day off and on thing? Trying to determine if I should pack an umbrella. Yep, I really do own one, lives under the seat in my car.

Where I live, chance of scattered thunderstorms at the end of June = blowing dust. If rain happens to sneak in, it will pour for 15-20 minutes, screw up the evening commute and not rain at the airort where they keep the official rain totals for the city.
