I'm also a paid side member of what was known as VegasRex, now known as therexforums since Rex moved to Seattle. A number of former LVA members migrated to that forum about 4 years ago. That much smaller group of people has bonded in real life in ways that I have never seen on LVA. They have multiple member meets every year. I've actually been to a couple of those. The sole purpose of those meets is to have fun with friends, both old and new, and we do just that. There are a number of LVA members that I would like to meet in person in Vegas and spend some time with participating in what Vegas is mostly all about - drinking and gambling and just having fun. I don't see that kind of camaraderie happening on LVA. That is a shame.

There was that type of "camaraderie" on here, particularly in the years before your join-up date. Though I agree that the core group that migrated from here to Rex took it to another level. I think two things are at work: Bigger gene pool. Time.

There's a lot of dilution here because of the sheer number of members. And time has seen people fall away, interest in Vegas lapse or diminish. I can only speak for my experiences, but I've developed a core of very good friends because of this place. We are bound by respect and shared interests, and Vegas now really has little to do with that.
Glad to see the political twaddlers still engaging in their self-admiration societies.

As for non-Vegas stuff: Hawai'i did NOT suck.
Hawaii............ rarely ever sucks.

Tell us more Vocab-boy.
Give me a sec, C, I'm looking for my one-syllable dictionary so I can write it up for you.

Golf: Wailea Blue, Emerald and Gold.
Beer: Lotta Maui Brewing Co. product -- Bikini Blonde, Big Swell IPA (there's that acronym again!) and Coconut Porter.
Food: Tons of fish -- waloo, ahi, monchong, lehu, opakapaka, mahi -- and farm-to-table produce and fruit.
Mo' food: Maui Cattle Company moo.
Mo' mo' food: Did I mention the Hamakua shroom and truffle gnocchi or the lobster pizza?
Canoed and had a swim with the fishes (and honu) offshore.

P.S. You're a big girl now, you have google, look it up.

Have to agree with Ken's take on the community here.

By far the best feature of having joined many years ago is the people we have met through the board and the friends we have made. In many cases now we check with some of the folks still on here to see when their next trip is and see if we can at least break bread.

I hate to stereotype, lord knows the political threads do enough of that, but the very people who have posted on this thread are exactly the type of people we love to meet up with in Las Vegas. Come to think of it some are ones we meet up with or have met up with!
Thx Ken

Seems to me the Member meet threads, have gone way down the past few years.
New members aren't meeting each other.
If New members want to meet? Perhaps they should plan a Meet when they're in town,
and Host it. Thats what most of us Used to do! Yes, put a face to the board Names.
You Post a MEET, follow up, and forgoodness sake..........Show up, time & place.

Agree about meeting some nice folks & longtime friends thru the board, and often meet up
thru PM's. Too much paparazzi otherwise. lol
Damn, forgot the lomi lomi massage.

I'm all for LVA Members Meets (and that is what that board is for -- to hopefully set up meet and greets) and I do try to either go to them or set them up myself for when I hope to be in LV. It's nice to put faces to names and exchange War Stories and hopefully get together to play as well. That can and has happened to me over the years!

Sounds like you had a great time.
The food sounds amazing and the fruit in Hawaii is so fresh. It's where I learned to appreciate sushi.
