Obama owes a huge thank you to the Tea Party

The Tea Party strikes me as a self-defined anachronism, or a demographic that wears its expiration date as a badge of honor.

It might be difficult to prove that Americans are getting smarter, but they are certainly becoming more cynical. When career politicians on either side of the aisle regurgitate disingenuous double-talk*, or use dog-whistle terminology, a dwindling number of people are duped -- but it appears an inordinately large number on the extreme right still are.

*Example of disingenuous double-talk: Calling under-taxed oligarchs job creators. This is like calling umbrella salesmen rainmakers.

With the top 1% paying 39% of the taxes can you really say they are under taxed?

A quick google search seems to indicate the top 1% of Americans own a good deal more than 39% of the country's wealth, so yes- they do appear under-taxes.

I am not spinning numbers; these are stats from the IRS.

Another IRS stat - the bottom 47% don't pay any taxes

That is flagrantly untrue as has been pointed out a million times on these boards...

Regardless, I'm thrilled that that Mitt Romney and the GOP nut-job righties are running a campaign that surrounds raising taxes on the working class and cutting taxes for people at the top. Every poll in America shows a majority of people in both parties wanting the exact oppossite.

But I shouldn't get my hopes up. Mitt will change his position on this issue once the general election starts. He's good at that kind of thing.

What a terrible thing to say. Remember, most Republicans are good Americans too.

You should be ashamed.

Uhhh, the so-called "tax cut" is a joke! It is paying less to social security. All ready a system that is "broke"!

Let's get real, continuing the "social security" tax cut is only taking from those who currently work and are HOPING we have some semblance of a plan when we are ready to retire!

I was not for it but the battle over the 2 month bill was silly. They would not win that one.

It would be nice if they would call it what it is "The keeping 112 billion out the social security trust fund tax cut". Oh they will pay for it and I have some awesome swamp land for sale.

I find it amusing how none of the GOP candidates will take ownership of anything they've said or written in the past..

- Rick Perry wrote a book on his political views 1 year ago. Now he says dont read it because its a bunch of BS
- Ron Paul's newsletter slammed gays, blacks, and Jews...but he's using the Enron defense that he didn't know what was being done in his own company..He just gave free license for people to write under his name without reviewing it.
- Newt's on the written record for praising the Massachusetts healthcare law 5 years ago and how it was an awesome model for the whole country. No, no...pay no attention to the man behind thew curtain.
- Mitt Romney...name an issue... He's the oppositte now from what he was 5 years ago.

The only candidates that have a constant conservative position on the issues are all dead last in the polls. For as much bellyaching conservatives do about Obama's policy they are pushing up people in the polls who have historically agreed with him on most of the big issues. Which proves what I've said all along. Conservatives aren;t pissed about Obama's policies...they're just pissed about Obama.

The bottom 47% don't pay any taxes
The bottom 47% don't pay income taxes.

How warped does one need to be to pretend the two statements are the same?

Then you should be upset the BO won't take ownership of what he has said in the past. Oh, that's right. Do as I say not as I do.
