Reading is Good. Understanding is Better.

Yes, reading is good and understanding is better. The OP was specific to Bryant Park. You wrote about "the parkdowntown" and "the park downtown" without specifying that the park you were writing about wasn't Bryant Park.

NYC has more than one "downtown park". This thread was started specific to one of them, and that is what I was commenting on. Sorry you couldn't, and still can't, understand that.

I'm unclear, so the Tea Party is pro-Wall Street or not?

Pro-Capitalism, so pro-Wall Street would be part of it.

The Tea Party Contract for America is:

Protect the Constitution
Reject Cap & Trade
Demand a Balanced Budget
Enact Fundamental Tax Reform
Restore Fiscal Responsibility & Constitutionally Limited Government
End Runaway Government Spending
Defund, Repeal, & Replace Government-run Health Care
Pass an 'All-of-the-Above' Energy Policy
Stop the Pork
Stop the Tax Hikes

The shops around the park will see increased business, as there will be thousands of people descending upon it. The pizza places close to the park downtown have expanded their hours and hired new employees as a result of the OWS crowd. The one place interviewed last week in the Post said he was selling a couple hundred extra pies a week. In fact, the increased business had allowed him to lower prices. His pies went from $18.95 to $14.95, and he can't keep up with demand. The Wall St area used to be pretty deserted on weekends, now places that were open M-F have expanded to seven days.
Its a shame so many of you are letting Faux News do your thinking for you, but thats certainly nothing new. After all, everyone knows businesses always have nothing but the best of intentions.

Ahhhh....The typical liberal comment of assuming people are getting their ideas from FOX News. You people can't come up with anything original. Don't forget to accuse people who don't agree with you as "ignorant and uninformed". I don't need FOX News to tell me that these disgusting hippies are annoying but I ignore their antics and I don't care what they do. By the way, you are aren't exactly original with your "Faux" comment either. I find your MSNBC playbook quite comical and I laugh at you.

I work in DC and am about 2 blocks from Freedom Plaza, where these people have taken up residence over the past several weeks.

It was one of the nicer (and there aren't many in this city) places to hang out and enjoy the weather and have lunch. Lots of us did this at least once a week on our breaks. I don't know anybody who has been there since these folks took over.

It's become a shantytown, like you see in South Africa and other poor places around the world.

The places REEKS of human waste. There are only 2 or 3 portapotties, and I can assure you that none of the businesses nearby will let them use their bathrooms, which I can totally understand. So on my way into my building this morning, I watched one of the protestors walking with 3 bottles full of piss and she proceeded to dump it down the gutter. This was right in front of a crowded bus stop with lots of men in suits and women also dressed in nice clothes. I'll bet that just made their day. Gotta put it somewhere, I guess...

Here's the best: a few businesses have decided to bring food to these people out of the kindness of their hearts...and then there was a news story last night (not on Fox, mind you) that the protestors actually COMPLAINED to the police that homeless people were coming in and taking food. They wanted them arrested. Are you kidding me????

I'm not a Republican or a Democrat. I am, however, someone who has worked hard, is in debt between a car payment, mortgage payment, home equity loan (for necessary home improvements), and is still paying off student loans even though my wife and I graduated more than 15 years ago. But guess what? I don't mind. It's called life. Maybe these people should stop bitching about it and join the club?

Bryant Park is not downtown. Wasn't downtown and won't be downtown. I mentioned the park and compared it to the downtown park. Two separate parks. It was a compare and contrast thing. Not really all that difficult to comprehend, is it?

One thing you can say about the tea party is this
They openly recruited folks on the causes that they wanted to try to change. 10 items or so, then they became a big enough group effort to demand the changes. About anyone who wanted elected or re-elected republicans needed to listen. If not they probably went down to defeat. They want "big" overzealous government out of their lives! No more runaway spending and handouts for anyone who asked. They had common goals and organized very very well.
So, is this wall street occupation the democrats answer to the tea party? It is so fragmented in it's goals that is pretty much a sliver group and nothing else.
Just asking if you think of it this way or not. I am not sure I even know what their agenda is (WSO).
Try you tubing some of the interviews they have given - hilarious

You are correct. They successfully changed the dialogue in Washington and demonstrated that organized people can strike fear into the hearts of Washington politicians. And their message is enforced by the fact that they all vote - and they make it very clear to the officials that they will vote. So officials listen to them.

There are two lessons the occupy crowd can learn from the tea party - one success and one failure:

- Many of the "occupiers" feel that not voting sends a better message to Washington. That is stupid and proven false by the tea-party who did the oppositte

- The tea-party mistakenly did not create a coherant message and was a "leaderless" movement while it was developing. Soon crazy people starting showing up saying crazy things and the tea party became associatted with crazy...and they lost favor in mainstream America. The occupy crowd risks that same fate if they continue to not have a message. I tend to agree with much of their core message but I'm scard to death that I'm going to go down to march and find some NAMBLA dude carrying a sign saying he wants to f@ck little boys.
PJ, did you see your beloved BO is now giving BONUSES (at tax payers expense) to employees at Fannie and Freddie?

I love it, private corporations shouldn't give bonuses but tax payer money can go to croonies who should be fired.
"I tend to agree with much of their core message "

What is their message?
