Recently, a friend of mine got a job at an upscale hotel in Austin. She delivers room service orders. She loves the job, encounters very interesting and peculiar people and receives extremely good tips.
However … she told me that at least 80% of the guests ask her to put the tray on the bed. She finds this odd. I find this odd. There are several surfaces in every room that are obviously more suitable, but this is the pervasive request.
To be clear: She isn't serving breakfast in bed. She is entering a room where people are up and wandering about, and she's being asked to place the tray on the bed. So, after a few cocktails last night, I told her I would do a survey.
Room service tray:
1. Table
2. Desk
3. Bed
4. Other
Feel free to elaborate. (I'm pretty happy with #1.)
