An odd question about room service.

Recently, a friend of mine got a job at an upscale hotel in Austin. She delivers room service orders. She loves the job, encounters very interesting and peculiar people and receives extremely good tips.

However … she told me that at least 80% of the guests ask her to put the tray on the bed. She finds this odd. I find this odd. There are several surfaces in every room that are obviously more suitable, but this is the pervasive request.

To be clear: She isn't serving breakfast in bed. She is entering a room where people are up and wandering about, and she's being asked to place the tray on the bed. So, after a few cocktails last night, I told her I would do a survey.

Room service tray:
1. Table
2. Desk
3. Bed
4. Other

Feel free to elaborate. (I'm pretty happy with #1.)
I prefer the table or desk depending on the room. Some rooms a desk serves as the table and desk. My favorite are the rooms where they bring a small table on wheels.

I'm guessing most people want to stretch out and eat in bed, pillows propped against the headboard and maybe watch TV. If she places the tray on the bed, they don't have to get up and move it.

Sorry, this isn't working good when the phone rings twice as you are attempting to reply,
Maybe these are some of the same people who prop open the door wide open for all to
see and then don't have to get up to answer the door !
I want it on the table facing the TV if I am alone... the round table by the window if I am traveling w/ another.
I have eaten in the bed-sitting indian style w/ something I brought in from the Deli or such...again..b/c of TV

Couldn't have said it better! I don't expect them to put it on the bed, though. It usually does come on a little table on wheels with a tablecloth. I'll set the 'table' how I want it.
I would like the cute room service attendant to place the tray on the bed and then smear the food all over my body. Then she would ............... oops, back to reality - too much "50 shades of Grey"!

Be wary of Larry's room service order when it includes a canister of whipped cream. Lol
