One moe dog story

We just adopted our second Chihuahua from the Dumb Friends League here in Denver. We named her ChaCha. She is two years old and a long hair weighing 7 pounds. She is a Puppy Mill dog. We were quite shocked to leaned how these dogs are treated. Never had any caring, never has been outside, just used to reproduce.
ChaCha is going on her second week with us. She is getting used to us and now will go potty on a lease outside. Still very timid and you have to go slow when approaching her. Her and our other adopted Chihuahua (Jackpot, now five years old, we have had him for 4 years) are getting along fine. I saw the ads on TV of the dogs in shelters and couldn't resist

Kansas has passed a law, as we were told by the Dumb Friend League, limiting the Puppy Mills to 30 dogs. It appears that Denver is getting a lot of these dogs as most of the Puppy Mills had many more then 30 dogs. Hopefully the good people of Colorado will give these dogs a loving home. Sorry, but Micheal Vick makes me sick.
Jeff, you done a good thing! Way to go!

If up to me would shut down pet stores which sell puppies and kittens and those horrible store front "puppy store" places as they tend to end up with products of puppy mills. One place, now gone thank goodness, had an interview in a local shopper type newspaper. Florida had been cracking down on puppy mills. This jerk water in the interview says that to make sure their clients got the finest dogs they went to places like Arkansas and Texas to get their puppies and not Florida! This for a puppy store in a Tampa suburb!
Congrats on the new addition to the family!

How about some pictures? :-)

We've always had rescues. The oldest, Eva, a lab mix, we've had over 14 years and she was found as a youngster in a vacant lot. She's now up there but still has a great quality of life and with the help of our wonderful vet. Our poodle is almost 10 and we've had her since childhood also. The terrier mix was rescued by a friend almost 4 years and given to us as they could not keep her. The latest (and last for a while) rescue was just acquired in September. Someone abandoned him at one of the local parks (unneutered) with no tag, collar, or chip. He is a some kind of hound mix and we named him Elvis. Our vet puts his age at about 3 years old and now he is neutered. This one was a tough one, as he was obviously someone's loved pet. He has no fear issues, loves everyone, and was obviously never abused. We know the difference. We tried a little harder to find his owner, but no one came forward. He now has a good home too and is just part of the family.
Thanks for your story jpenick.

Congrats on adopting a Mill survivor-- wire cages, crowding-- awful.
I still see those horrible ads for "Puppy City"in the newspaper - dogs go from $399/00 up to $2,000 for teacups.
If people only knew the suffering, lonliness and isolation these animals live with.
Be gentle on her--- she's come around.
Bless your sweet heart!!!

Man, can I relate to that.

Ya done good, Jeff.

Free Food For Animal Rescue

Jeff as others have indicated you done good stuff.

I hope you don’t mind if I do a mini thread hi-jack and add a link to donate free food to Animal Rescue. I click on this link often (when I remember) and have never had any issues due to clicking the tab. A lady at work gave me this link and our IT manager at the University checked out the site and said it was OK to proceed.
Go for it George. Thanks for all the kind responses. ChaCha is doing good. Jackpot, our other Chihuahua,
tolerates her anhd is getting used to her. ChaCha is learning to use the lease and go outside as long we pay attention. So far so good. See wags her tail now. A major improvement. She is what we needed.
Thanks again!
