Ooops We Did It Again!

Last November, following the loss of our beloved Amy in late May, we adopted another Golden from Golden Retriever Rescue of Mid Florida. Riley was 7 1/2 months and though a handful was such a wonderful dog. Riley is now 17 months old and we had been considering a second one as a playmate but thought we would wait until he was a bit older and had a bit more training.

Well things happened fast and not to drag out the story this last wednesday we brought home Chase, a 10 month old Golden from the same group. What a joy and what a handful! We are still getting them used to each other and with 2 dogs right now 3 times the work but we wouldnt trade either of them! Overall getting along fine though we do have to separate them a fair amount for now. In evening, when tired, they collapse right by each other and snooze while we watch TV.

Both he and Riley show promise as therapy dogs (like Amy was for nearly 7 years at a children's hospital). Riley is in training and Chase starts wednesday with his first class. Currently we volunteer with the rescue group and take Riley to adoption events to both acquaint the public with the breed and with the great dogs you can get through rescue. Chase should be going to his first event soon as well.

Please, if interested, visit your local shelter or SPCA. If you are looking for a particular breed check online I bet there is a group near you. You rescue a dog and you will find a super companion.

Better quit now while ahead
Its good to have people like you in the world Marc. It negates out the Michael Vick types....
It's just the right thing to do. We adopted Cleo, a beautiful brindle Boxer, from the UK. She's such a joy! I'd love to have two, but I think it would send Sharon around the bend!

Marc, for a minute I thought an old thread was resurrected. lol

I bet Chase and Riley bring you and Cathy many years of joy. It's wonderful that you are training them to follow Amy's footsteps. I had no idea about the significant role that therapy dogs play until I went through a weeklong training in Portland some years ago to be a member of NOVA's national crisis response team. I was impressed and wished I was positioned to have one myself.

Thanks for the support all

Not many know about the disaster response teams. The group Amy was registered with, and hopefully Riley and Chase, is Therapy Dog International which partners with FEMA to provide teams for disasters. Federal and State authorities first asked for the teams following the bombing in Oklahoma. TDI responded with 20 teams. Since then they have been asked for help with many disasters to include Katrina and the recent tornadoes in the South. I know, in my heart, the boys will pass the necessary tests for work in the hospitals and can only hope they can also meet the disaster requirements.

Will bore you all with their progress.

Marc
Good on ya, mate!

Now bring 'em out west so they can run along our new (to us) beach!!
