Taft figures in several other trivia questions/answers. He is the only person to serve as both US President and Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. He was also our last President to sport facial hair!

If I'm not mistaken, wasn't he also the fattest president?

- Jeff

Well suppose "fat" is a subjective term but he was our heaviest President tipping the scales at over 300 pounds.

HUH?

I was replying to TB who asked if any US Presidents were buried on foreign soil and none are. I was not replying to your point. Yes, for example Washington is in a crypt above ground so not buried IN US soil. But once again I made a reply to TB's query, yours is neither quoted nor referenced. Maybe you need to read what folks actually post?

Marcr, thanks for the explanation. On this particular question, I believed the person was asking if anyone was buried outside of the United States whether under ground or in a tomb. My thoughts could not envision why the controversy.

If we wanted to get really down to a play in words, then here is one. The survivor of any President buried in Arlington cannot be buried in that same cemetery. Old kids joke but in case someone is looking for a reply, the survivor hasn't passed away yet.
By the way, the "Find a Grave" site is pretty interesting.
I think I first found that site 10 years ago. It's grown a lot.
People have entered entire graveyards.

I typed in the name of my grandfather, and he's listed.

In the past, I was never interested in final burial spots. But I've read so much history lately, and I'm starting to feel connected to some of these people.
I'd like to see the burial spot of Nathanial Greene. And now probably George Washington. Alexander Hamilton (he's in Trinity Church on Wall Street).

I recently stopped quickly at the Reagan Library to see his burial monument. It was a nice experience. As I get older, I'm finding history even more interesting.
Another question:
And speaking of Grant....
Any idea how Grant got such a large tomb (or mausoleum, or whatever it is). I think it's one of the largest in the country.
My limited understanding: poor president, good general if you wanted to win.
Grant's tomb is considered the largest such structure in the US. It was built through private donations (both corporations and public) and actually the final purpose of the structure wasnt decided or announced for quite some time. It was advertised and conceived first and foremost to be a monument to Grant ala the ones in DC for Washington and the proposed one for Lincoln.

The decision was not without controversy as many felt, including some in Congress, that Grant should be buried in DC and a suitable monument provided there. Apparently the final decison on building the structure in New York hinged on the fact that Grant had previously voiced a preference for that area.

And yes, at times, I do have too much time on my hands

Marc
Thanks Marc!
It's funny how Grant ends up on the $50 bill and has the largest mausoleum in the US. Personally, I'd vote to eliminate Grant from the $50.

There are other presidents I wish we had monuments for. Madison comes to mind quickly. I don't know of any memorial to him. And he was very important.

I heard there are plans for a John Adams monument in Washington, DC: https://www.nps.gov/legal/testimony/107th/adamsfam.htm

Then there are the presidents that I just liked. Like Truman. I admire him greatly. Not sure he deserves anything huge, but he has a place in my heart.
