Q of the Day - What's the Deal?

Okay, admittedly, I'm writing a bit of a flame at the Question of the Day writer(s), perhaps also with a little self-righteousness as well. Afterall, it's become somewhat of a joke to me now.

I just went through the past couple of months' questions of the day. I will say they're answering better questions than they used to ("Where's the best place to stay?"). For whatever reason, they continue to ignore my same question year after year.

In 2003 when the WSOP began going crazy, I submitted a question after seeing hundreds of dealers waiting for the next tournament. Where does Harrahs get all these people? How much are they paid? Where do they stay? I'ver heard that other properties do not allow their dealers to take part time employment to fill in at Harrahs, is this true?

They never chose to answer this question. So, I asked it again the next year...no response...then the next and so on. I have now asked the same question for nine years in a row. As of now, it is still being ignored.

What's the deal Las Vegas Advisor Question of the Day writer?
Considering the consistent similarities in phrasing, structure and style, my guess is that many of the questions are actually created in-house.

I submitted yesterday's QoD. The one about the cost of maintaining the Echelon Place construction site compared to the profit or loss of the Stardust prior to closing. And, I was happy with the answer.

But now, I want to know the answer to your question.
This a good and valid question...
maybe the all powerful LVA Wizard of Oz doesn't KNOW the answer
I could se how many employees answer the questions, not just one

good for you for pursuring (sp?) this Jman

Agree its a really Good question. Perhaps PM a few LVA staff........also post in Ques to LVA.
Can't hurt.

My guess........you have One person delving into QofD and your ? may involve too much
looking, gathering, to answer thoroughly in the time they have to post it.
But it would be nice if Staffer could give you an idea, if they will look into it, or not?

If this is something YOU might like to do? I would contact CE employment office & inquire.
They have a daily Employment office at Ballys (park in the Sportsbook lot) and talk to them.

I have asked several times what a WSOP dealer is paid and what tips he can expect - particularly at the final table. I thought that, at WSOP time it would be a question with lots of interest, but after 3 years I quit asking.

Calif.Loves.Vegas- Oh, that's good. Someone asks a question and you suggest that they do the researching for the answer. Remind me to never ask a question in your presence.
Ahhhh...it's all good. As I said, it's becoming an annual thing with me. I'm just always amused at the total rejection by the staff of the whole thing...especially since each year I remind them that they are ignoring it, "this is the fourth...this is the fifth...this is the seventh year I'm asking this question, but..."

I, too, have suspected that there are times that the Q of the Day person (s), do a little history research and simply make up the question themselves considering they rarely seem to give credit to the person who asks it. However, that's the cynic in me, and I hope that's not the case.

After all this time, there's no fun in finding the answer for myself. I suppose I could just catch up with one of the temporary dealers on a break or after a shift and ask the questions, but then I'd have to come up with a new question to ask every year for the Q of the Day.

I'm just going to continue to be that "obnoxious, pain-in-ass Uncle" every family seems to have and continue asking each year. I'll keep ya posted...

Thanks for your comments!
they get most of their dealers from the other bazillion Harrah's owned casinos, and run their poker rooms really short handed during the WSOP.
