Reagan = Obama (POL)

I'll try this again since for some reason it was taken down from the free for all section soon after I posted --- I'm not sure why....

Below is a link to a great article written by Larry Kudlow (from CNBC) comparing Obama to Reagan:

KudlowComparingReaganToObama

The lines below are a good sample...

So far, real GDP has averaged only 3 percent annually for Obama. Employment as defined by nonfarm payrolls has increased by a paltry 121,000. On the other hand, going back to Reagan’s first six recovery quarters, real GDP averaged 7.7 percent annually while nonfarm payrolls rose by 5.3 million.
And who is a more objective commentator than Larry Kudlow? The man cant make it through a sentence without uttering the phrase "tax cuts". He's like Rudy Guiliiani and "911". He is also the guy who heralded Geroge Bush's economy as "the greatest story never told" right up until the day of the collapse.

His article is full of completely false statements - Like Reagan cut taxes, while Obama created big government programs. In fact, Obama has cut taxes to levels far lower than Reagan's....and Reagan spent far more government money than the predecessor he railed against for doing that very thing. There was nothing the least bit "small government" about Reagan's presidency.

I dont waste time debating people who live in an alternate universe of reality.
"His article is full of completely false statements - Like Reagan cut taxes, while Obama created big government programs. "

Reagan didn't cut taxes? bama's $900b stimulus, obamacare & $5,000 billion in defict spending for 4 years along with a 17% increase in federal employment isn't an expansion of big government programs? bama would have had had the largest tax increase in history if the Republicans hadn't won the 2010 elections.
pj, your complaining about "alternate universe of reality".

Mr. Bo's budget is calling for a $.15 increase now in gas taxes among other tax increases.

BO is not even on the same playing field as Regan. He is more on Carter's level.

So why was this thread taken down on the free side just a few hours after I posted it?

5 Million new jobs created over the first 6 recovery quarters versus 121K --- that speaks for itself.

I listened to a discussion about with Kudlow on the radio show "Money Talk" over the weekend and Kudlow pointed out that Oil went from over $40 per barrel under Reagan to under $8. Killing inflation is the biggest "tax cut" a government can give. In today's dollars $40 per barrel is ~ $80 and I fear we will see $120 by the end of this year.

Comparing Reagan to Obama? They ain't in even in the same zip code.

You cant argue with people who say the world is flat. What inflation under Obama are you referring to that has hindered the economy? What are Obama's tax rates compared to Reagan's? How much did Reagan cut the size of government?

Nothing would make me happier than to put our tax rates back to Reagan's level...but Reagan's tax rates are considered to be communistic by today's standards of the laughable right wing "fiscal conservatives".. ..which just makes it hilarious that you and your crowd put him on your shoulders.
"but Reagan's tax rates are considered to be communistic by today's standards of the laughable right wing "fiscal conservatives".. "

The tax rates back then were at a higher base & the democrats (who controlled congress) were proclaiming the end of the world with the cuts that were passed back then. He could never have passed today's rate structure then. Here is a summary of cuts from Reagan

• phased-in 23% cut in individual tax rates over 3 years; top rate dropped from 70% to 50%
• indexed individual income tax parameters (beginning in 1985)
• created 10% exclusion on income for two-earner married couples ($3,000 cap)
• phased-in increase in estate tax exemption from $175,625 to $600,000 in 1987
• reduced Windfall Profit taxes
• allowed all working taxpayers to establish IRAs
• expanded provisions for employee stock ownership plans (ESOPs)

By the way bama with his new budget is still trying to increase taxes

PJ - since you feel the tax rates are too low the govt will accept your check if you want to pay more.

We can always count on Hoops to cherry pick the facts.

- Reagan also increased the Social Security and Medicare payroll taxes to the highest levels in history to help offset his 1981 tax cuts. Do you think Obama should do the same?

- He rolled back his tax cuts on corporations in 1982 - increasing them by 57 billion dollars. Do you support that today?

- He increased taxes on Dividends and interest. Would you support Obama doing that?

- He increased federal taxes on gasoline at the pump from 4 cents to 9 cents/gallon.

- He increased taxes on bonues given to corporate executives. Do you support that today?

Hoops had a stroke when Obama put a tax on tanning beds to help offset the payroll tax cuts in the stimulous bill. I can only imagine the reaction to all of Reagan's tax increses.
