Recent Amtrak experience (non Pol)

And east of Toronto, I think you can still piece together much of the path of the trans-Canadian. It's not a single train any more, but there is travel on much of trackage.

Yes, I think you go Toronto to Montreal and then a different train Montreal to Halifax.

I received this in my email this morning, just thought I would share it in case anyone is interested.

Guwapo,
Thanks for sharing the link. I don't think I can use it, but I'm going to sign up to get future deals.
And I'm checking out the route. I'm a few years from doing the Canadian crossing, but it's on my list.

I just took Amtrak from Denver to Glenwood Springs, CO. It was beautiful trip. We left Denver on time and arrived on time. The conductor was very nice. My friend and I boarded and had our choice of several set of seats marked for parties of two. A few minutes after departure we headed for the lounge/observation car and sat there most of the trip. We had a nice lunch - I spent $9.50 for iced tea and a flatbread chicken sandwich with chips. Decent food and a decent price. Would I do it again - yes for a short/day trip where I was not worried about delays.

How far is it from Denver to Glenwood Springs?

It is about a 6 hour train ride or 2 1/2 hours in the car depending upon traffic and weather :-)

TB-that sounds the same as the Fun train to Reno! alot closer too.

chuga-chuga-chuga-Woo-Wooooooooooo!

2 1/2 to drive or 6 hours by train. That's about right if you catch the Zephyr in Martinez or Davis.
For train people, it's the journey and the destination. Not just the destination.
I like the Reno train, but from my house, I leave at 5am and arrive 5pm.
Or I can drive it 5 hours.

If I have the time, the Zephyr is worth it.

I've had friends in a few of those shows. One set in Coloma (gold discovery) and a train one set in San Luis Obispo. Went to the site. Oh, man! He did an episode on something you can't do anymore: take a train from Campo to Tecate, Mexico and visit a brewery.

Good, I'm happy that you went to his site and liked it! I did remember that he has done train stuff over the years which made me think of you as soon as you started mentioning your love for trains.

I do hope that at least with Amtrak that you are making use of your available Auto Club (AAA) discount for them!
