Steve Wynn gets it (POL)

There are entitlements and then there are entitlements. Sorry, but any cutting of Social Security and Medicare for current or near retirees just isn't acceptable. You just can't do that to so many people.
Obama is "cutting" Social Security already --- the rising debts force the US to print so much money, they dollar has lost 10%+ on the world market, Social Security "inflation" increases are just about nill because they are not tied to rising prices in commodities (i.e. Food and Energy).

So - essetially Obama has CUT social security by 10%+ already through money printing / dollar devaluation. Most Americans are just too stupid to realize it. The evil Republicans want to reduce speding so we can actually fund our obligations. Boy they are puishing grandma over the cliff.

Money pits?

While wont comment on the rest first and second quarter profits at Wynn and Encore very healthy as were overall profits last year.

"But this is all irrelevant to the fact that Steve Wynn blames Obama for something that happend before the president took office and in fact happened under the very "business-friendly" administration whose policies he and our resident conservatives still think is the cure to all our problems."

PJ - bambam has been president for 2 1/2 years, blaming the prior administration now longer is a valid excuse.

Remember "if we pass the stimulus unemployment will not go over 8%" Since the passage we have not been under 8%.

bambam, pelosi and reid have created the most anti-business climate in American hstory. He appoints people whose records are so bad the democrats won't support them and he sneaks then in via recess apppointments. The democrats want to penalize successful companies with higher taxes & regulation and reward failure. They want to increase taxes on people who make money and subsidize those that lose money. The NRB has yet to see a union cause that they didn't go overboard for. The EPA passes rules that makes it impossible for business to expand. We can't drill for new oil. The health care bill costs grow by the day. The list goes on.

There are 2 problems with medicare; one is that less than 10% of the recipients use almost 40% of the resources. This is a huge ethical question as we get into the value of prolonging life. The second and more manageable problem is fraud which accounts for 20% of expenditures.

For those collecting & about to collect, SS payments should continue. Increasing the retirement age, allowing more contributions to 401k's and IRA's are ways to reduce the liablity long term

Well, it's rather difficult to change anyone's opinions on most things but especially on political positions. LOL

However, let me make a couple comments just for fun.

I heard a CEO during an interview the other day and he agreed with the moderator that taxes going up or down don't really have an impact on a business hiring people one way or another.

He said the big picture is are people buying stuff. The more people buy the more his company (Honeywell) will hire.

This debt ceiling thing is kind of funny.

The Republicans yell about it when the Democrats are in office but they were very quiet when Bush/Cheney started 2 very expensive wars without paying for them.

Obama has been constrained by many things he
wanted to accomplish due to the opposing party.

Is he a liberal? Yes!!! Thank God!!

I wonder what shape the country would be in if Mr. Bush was still in office.

Do I run a very successful business?
Do I mind paying higher taxes?
Do I mind helping folks who need a leg up?
Do I think everyone should have health insurance?
Do I think Mr. Obama will win a second term
in office?

Yes, to all of the above.

If I'm correct, there will be a lot of Republicans voted out of office in 2012.

The caps below are to differentiate my points; I am not internet shouting

The Republicans yell about it when the Democrats are in office but they were very quiet when Bush/Cheney started 2 very expensive wars without paying for them. - OBAMA VOTED AGAINST THE CAP IN 2006

Obama has been constrained by many things he
wanted to accomplish due to the opposing party. HE HAD SUPERMAJORITIES IN BOTH HOUSES FOR 2 YEARS BUT MANAGES TO PUT THE BLAME ON THE MINORITY PARTY

I wonder what shape the country would be in if PRESIDENT Bush was still in office. - WHEN IN DOUBT BLAME PRESIDENT BUSH

Do I run a very successful business? I AM THE DIRECTOR OF ADVERTISING FOR A MID SIZED MEDIA COMPANY. NOBODY IS BUYING ADS MORE THAN 30 DAYS OUT DUE TO UNCERTAINTITY

Do I mind paying higher taxes? IF YOU PAID LESS IN TAXES WOULDN'T YOU HAVE MORE MONEY TO EXPAND YOUR BUSINESS AND HIRE PEOPLE?
Do I mind helping folks who need a leg up?
Do I think everyone should have health insurance? - WHAT IS YOUR COMPANIES HEALTH COVERAGE? DO YOU PAY 100% OF THE COST?

Do I think Mr. Obama will win a second term
in office? GALLUP APPROVAL RATINGS ARE 42%; EVEN LOWER IN PA, FL, NC AND OHIO. HE LOSES THOSE STATES HE IS OUT. HIS APPROVALS HAVE BEEN IN STEADY DECLINE FOR 6 WEEKS. ANOTHER GALLUP POLL SHOWS 40% WOULD DEFINITLY NOT VOTE FOR HIM IN 2012 WHILE HE ONLY HAD 30% FOR HIM. THIS MEANS HE HAS TO CONVERT TWO THIRDS OF THE REMAINDER TO WIN

Yes, to all of the above.

If I'm correct, there will be a lot of Republicans voted out of office in 2012. - GENERIC REPUBLICAN CONGRESSIONAL BALLOT IS +2 POINTS. IT IS UNUSUAL FOR REPUBLICANS TO HAVE A FAVORABLE RATING IN THIS TYPE OF POLL. WHEN THEY ARE AHEAD IT USUALLY SIGNALS A BIG REPUBLICAN WIN. OF THE 25 DEMOCRATIC SENATORS UP FOR RE-ELECTION, THERE ARE 12 DEMOCRATIC SENATORS IN REPUBLICAN STATES. IT IS VERY POSSIBLE ALL OR MOST COULD LOSE IN 2012

The cap has never been tied to budget cuts.
Until now.
In fact, debt is good for this country to a point.
At least, that's what my college prof said.

Yep, you are correct. The minority party was the blame.

Why not blame Bush?

Do I run a very successful business? I AM THE DIRECTOR OF ADVERTISING FOR A MID SIZED MEDIA COMPANY. NOBODY IS BUYING ADS MORE THAN 30 DAYS OUT DUE TO UNCERTAINTITY

Well, then you are in the wrong business.

Get yourself into a business that's resistant to
bad news. LOL

BTW, I wonder who is causing this uncertainty?

Do I mind paying higher taxes? IF YOU PAID LESS IN TAXES WOULDN'T YOU HAVE MORE MONEY TO EXPAND YOUR BUSINESS AND HIRE PEOPLE?

No. I'm at my expansion limit.
Anyway, taxes have nothing to do with the success of my business.

Do I mind helping folks who need a leg up?
Do I think everyone should have health insurance? - WHAT IS YOUR COMPANIES HEALTH COVERAGE? DO YOU PAY 100% OF THE COST?

Our insurance pays almost everything with a very small deductible.

Of course everyone should and (eventually) will have health coverage.

You can bet your bank on that. LOL

BTW, that's part of the leg up, right?

Well, I have already won one ($100) political bet on these boards which I donated to a needy person (:ROTF so I will not take more money from anyone else.

Let's let time (2012) decide these things.

I have a hunch you will be disappointed.
Couple quick thoughts:

President Obama has said, quite honestly I think, that he regrets his 2006 vote against raising the debt limit. His ability to change his mind and admit he was wrong about something is rightly viewed as a sign of his strength, not a weakness.

Although Democrats were a majority in both the House and the Senate his first two years, they never truly had a working supermajority in the Senate. As we all know, it takes 60 votes in the Senate, not 51, to move legislation. Sen. Franken became the 60th senator in July 2009, but because one of those 60 is Sen. Lieberman, an independent who by and large opposed President Obama's agenda, this 60 was never a working supermajority for the President. Further, it fell back to 59 when Sen. Brown replaced Sen. Kennedy seven months later.

Polling consistently shows that President Obama still soundly beats every Republican candidate seeking to replace him. Mitt Romney typically falls just a few points short, but he'd ultimately depress GOP turnout with his health care loving, silver-spoon licking, employee firing, business exporting, non-Evangelical background. Unlike President Obama, who under constant political attack, none of the other candidates are bashing Romney much because they hope to be his VP. Just wait, it's coming, and he'll crumble.

Oh, and America's more than had its fill of yee-haw Texas Governors.
Heck - the Democrats could not even pass a budget when they controlled the White House and both houses of Congress. But it sure didn't stop them from spending did it? How can you defent not passing a budget?
