Stop the mailing labels!!

I made the mistake of donating to a pol party in the last election, and now I get calls from all different 800 or 801 numbers - I've looked up the numbers on Google, and they're all from a large marketing firm that the parties use to try and get more donations. The really annoying thing is that they ask who you are, but if you ask who THEY are, they give a first name then hang up. And from what I've read on the Google threads, a lot of people have the same experience. Since they are trying to raise money for a pol party, they don't have to stop calling you (exempt from the no call list). So now any time I get a call from a number I don't know, I just hit the power button on my iPhone and it goes right to voice mail. What a pain in the ass. (I don't know why they think I'm going to give a credit card number to someone who calls me that I don't know anyway - how can they possibly do the pol party any good?)
So my advice - DON'T DONATE TO A POLITICAL PARTY, or if you really want to - give them a phony phone number.
Making donations anonymously does not allow for deductions on your taxes but is anonymity cost effective. Many charitable organizations work on a proven formula much like the casinos with a house advantage known profit. Even with a small return per dollar the mass mailings can generate some big $.

One questionable charity donation angle I used to despise was the use of organization names as a hook. An organization would permit the use of their name by a group of people selling something like spice racks or kitchen knives. The sales pitch would focus on the name of the organization and make it sound like they were the soul recipient of the profits. In reality the named organization received a small pittance but some did not mind because they had to do nothing beyond allowing the use of their good name. The negative to this is when consumers receive crappy products they associate this with the named organization sponsoring the sale of the worthless junk.

It is unfortunate that some of the activities mentioned in this thread can hurt worthwhile charitable organizations that are innocent of harassment in most cases.

I dont mind the mailing labels...I'm just sick of the phone books. I haven't used one in over 10 years. And 10 years ago I would only get 2 of them a year...now I get 6.

And I cant throw them in the garbage because I'm like, "gee, I need to recycle these." ...but most recycling places dont take them. So I just got this tower of phone books in my garage.
I love getting the labels. Years ago only our insurance company would send us labels so it wasn't long before they were gone. Now we always have a supply of address labels to use.
