TIME magazine really?

Woody - Missed point? His exact words were "freeloading illegal aliens . . ."

As for getting people off the welfare and unemployment gravy train, that's exactly what we've all been trying to do for years. The Earned Income Credit, which started in the 70's, took it's current form under the tax reform act of 1986. It was designed to encourage people to work and to reward them for working, especially if they had low paying jobs. It replaced various other aid programs which were more like the welfare you all are talking about now. (If my memory serves me correctly, wasn't Reagan the president back then???)
I have no problems with stopping abuse and am open to better ideas, should they come along - I haven't heard any of them so far.

I AM A Business owner, and I have prepared thousands of corporate tax returns over the last 40 years or so. Chilcoot is totally correct in that almost no one pays the stated corporate rates, so even though our top corp rate is 35%, almost no one actually pays that. Frankly, the small businesses that you all are trying so hard to protect are usually S Corporations and pay zero taxes at the corporate level. The increase in tax rates will have zero impact on small business owners, and will certainly have no impact on job creation by them.

The right wingers here and in the radio/tv entertainment complex love to spout nasty commentary and even they don't believe what they are saying, they are just trying to sell books to Dr Milled and Mr Woodpecker, and others like them. It's really funny that a president who is pretty middle of the road is considered socialist - I guess because he thinks health issues shouldn't bankrupt anyone in this country. No matter how many names you may call him, I think the real scumbags (apparently a favorite term around here) are the business owners who are already trying to bend the rules to get out of covering employees healthcare and other fringes.

I'm not happy about the deficit either, but as a peace loving American, I think we could probably balance the budget by cutting all military spending until the budget balances. There is a reason we are hated in many parts of the world, and it's mostly because we stuck our noses in where they didn't belong.

I can't imagine a better award winner for Time magazine, Thank God for our President. God bless you all and God bless America. Hope you all had a Merry Christmas!!

Very well stated.A voice of sanity.
Military Spending and Government Spending are one in the same which is why it makes for great entertainment when people demand an increase in Military Spending all the while crying about Big Government.
rdwoodpecker- you are correct about them missing the point. The freeloaders, welfare and unemployment cheats continue to steal tax dollars from those who work and pay taxes. And why are we giving billions of dollars in foreign aid to nations that hate us, while we have citizens in the US that could use those funds to better their lives? Argue those real facts. I could care less about other nations and their people, let their government take care of them. I see people everyday who have next to nothing as a result of the actions of this current administration and more people are losing their homes and businesses everyday. Meanwhile the elected senators and representatives who were elected to manage our government have left early for the holidays completely ignoring balancing our budget. Don't let work interfere with their personal fun. Those worthless zombies should have been made to stay in Washington until they had worked out the budget. Potus could have demanded it but he had to have his vacation also. Apparently many of the elected don't want to work- they just want the perks. Anyone who thinks that increasing the taxes on the rich is going to make a difference is delusional. The illegal aliens keep crossing our borders, the welfare numbers keep increasing and the unemployed keep getting payment extensions while they "look" for a job while watching their widescreen tv. Open your eyes people, the signs of financial ruin are all around you and you refuse to see them.

I've shown that this statement is false, using statistics from the Congressional Budget Office reported by the Wall Street Journal. Corporations in America pay low taxes compared to other developed nations, and right now those taxes are at a 40+ year low.

In the face of that, I don't much care about what some outdated domain placeholder page you managed to find from some territory (Cocos Islands?) in the Indian Ocean says.

You seem to desperately want to avoid looking wrong, to have your bullshit go unchallenged. But wrong you are, and bullshit it is.

Maybe you should check the website closer! It is the 2011 and 2012 rates!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Are we operating in some other year than 2012????? Damn you seem to talk out of both of your openings! But, yet can't seem to answer a simple question when asked!
I think we can agree on this! Tax rates are going to go up and spending must come down as well!

What percent, who taxes go up for and just what cuts we need to make of course is where it is hard to agree.

Your Indian Ocean domain placeholding page? Here's an image from the top of that site's front page:

Then, when you scroll down a bit, here's how it describes its information:

"You can find 2010 tax rates and 2011 tax rates from the menu above."

Now pause for a moment to think about how I managed to post this calmly without need to swear, mash my keyboard's exclamation point, or contemplate your body's openings. Observe and learn.

If you can read this you will see that the corporate rates IS STILL 35% at the top! You also need to read what your leader thinks of this "highest corporate rate in the developed countries"

But I will let you draw your conclusions after you ONCE again read the info provided.

Cool, I knew that you'd feel forced to come around to my point eventually.

In other words, we start from a high rate, then give so many corporate breaks that companies can whittle their exposure down to among the lowest rates in the world.
I guess it just takes a while with you. But cheer up, slow learning DOES still count as learning.
