Where did the political threads go?

Anthony:

Where was I hostile?

Check your records and you will see I have been a paying customer for 10+ years with 2 memberships in my home and several others in my family. I was questioning your business sense in arbitrarily removing political threads on the Kitchwn Sink when three months ago we were directed tothe Kitchen Sink for Political Threads. Then you "censored" them without notice --- not even a sticky note at the top of the forum.

In my opinion - this was bad customer service and a bad business decision. But as I said it is your "pool" and potentially your financial loss. The slowness of the webbsite and repeated promises for years to correct the issue is only more evidence of poor customer service. Then you call your customer hostile.

All I can say is WOW - I would not run my business this way.

I will check back from time to time and chuckle when I see the slow response time and think I used to pay for this.

Respectfully - Jphelan

It's a matter of enough is enough. You've registered your dissatisfaction and it has been noted. We don't need to hear it over and over again. If you leave, I'm sorry. Now it's time to leave it alone.
I started this place a few years ago.

https://lva-politics.proboards.com/

It never really took off. Nowadays its pretty much just myself and an old LVA'er, Boilerman, that have at it.
But feel free to join and post if you like.
Good move Anthony. I haven't given up on you. You are invited to my 67th birthday dinner on July 19, at the Flame, El Cortez, 7 pm. Please bring a guess.

Denver Jeff

A "guess" is someone you invite, but don't know who it is.

Enjoy your party Denver Jeff!
I'll mark the date.

This thread alone provides ample evidence of why it's probably not right to have political discussions here. Politics is like some sort of crack that sets normally sane people off in the wrong ways. I've seen if for years. We haven't done much about it because we haven't paid a great deal of attention to these boards. However, that's changing. The entire LVA site is being redesigned and recoded. It will operate in a WordPress environment and one of the biggest beneficiaries of the change will be the message boards. It's a time-consuming and expensive move, so we'll be paying attention to everything that goes along with it. This board will have full-time mtoderators and a lot of the garbage that's been able to exist here till now will no longer be allowed. Part of the process is getting rid of the political commentary, at least for now. Will we allow it in its own little space in the new set-up? I don't know yet, but I'm leaning toward no.

The Kitchen Sink is for miscellaneous topics not covered in any of the many other topic-specific forums available here. The Kitchen Sink was the forum where people who were trying to have political discussions in FFA were specifically directed to go to have those discussions. A policy change in what you want or don't want allowed to be discussed within this particular forum is absolutely your choice. My concern is with how it happened. No announcement of a policy change. No locking threads after an announcement. It was a wholesale deletion of every thread that was political in any way, no matter if those threads did or didn't move past a level of civil discussion.

There are a few things about which I'm very passionate. One of them is casino gaming and the availability of what I consider to be adult playgrounds. I'm a gaming history fanatic and have been for years. That is why this website is important to me. You may or may not remember it, but I met you at the CCGTCC convention where you gave a speech and did a book signing a couple years ago. I pointed out that we both visited Las Vegas for the first time on the same month and year. I told you I thought about staying in Las Vegas like you did, but I went home and eventually ended up chasing fast cars as a motorsports journalist. We both ended up working in publishing. I really enjoyed that conversation.

I'm also very passionate about politics, and it isn't just because I enjoy a good debate. I believe politics today are affecting every person in this country on a level that is far above anything this country has ever experienced. I lost the home I lived in for 22 years to foreclosure in 2010. I feel that without active sharing of information and opinions, those things that affect all of us will continue to negatively escalate beyond a point of no return. These are things I think should not be ignored under the premise that some people don't want to read about it. IOW, don't click on the topic if it doesn't interest you...

Best regards,

Bob

Extremely well said bob
I recall a former co-worker with an expression for the extension of argumentative discourse beyond its serviceability or merit. He called it "poking the rattlesnake."

LOL! I love it.

The 3-4 political, non-stop bickering folks, think, that if they can't post their POL garbage, it will cause a hurt on the LVA's bottom line! HAHA! How full of yourself are you?

Some one please explain how political, back and forth banter that never comes to an agreed upon conclusion, and ends up in vicious name calling and insults, is good for the LVA's bottom line!?

And then the two comments about liking to argue politics, that end up in vicious name calling with "friends" as the reason they won't go to a political message board.

Let me set one thing straight for you....Unless you have met these folks in person, they are NOT your friends. Just another person behind a keyboard that you don't know, but love to argue with.

Another thing.....You didn't know any of the people here prior to your signing up for LVA...how hard would it be to sign up and start meeting people and arguing with friends on a political message board!?

Sheeesh

You can't make this shit up!

AMEN for the decision to ban that garbage! Its Anthony's web site, and he can do whatever he wants with it!

This is actually pretty funny! Our NASCAR Fantasy League on the FFA forum has absolutely nothing to do with Las Vegas or gambling, and trash talk is encouraged!

I'm sure most people who have no interest in NASCAR just ignore those posts....

You are trying to compare a shit- talking, name calling, endless amount of politcal crap to a Nascar Fantasy League? Try again pal.

First off...There is a nascar race in Las Vegas every year, and secondly LOTS of us BET on Nascar races here in Vegas. Those two reasons alone have everything to do with Las Vegas, as do most sporting event type threads.

Sure the Fantasy League encourages trash talking....but we don't do much (if any) of it.

Take some time now and go read the Nascar threads....then come back and show me where there has been any trash talking, that is even remotely offensive, and repetitive , never ending arguing, about the same tired crap!

I won't hold my breath...cause you won't find any.

Thanks for trying anyways...and we'll see you at politico.com

I thought about this and I have to say that while the nascar threads obviously fill a desire by some of the LVA crowd, they aren't for me. Is there trash talking and such there? Dunno and I could care less if there is. Why don't I? Its extremely simple, I think nascar is somewhat stupid and I can't understad for the life of me why anyone would be interested in watching cars go around and around a track for hours (and people consider me a redneck. Ironic, huh?) so I pass on them.Would I ever show up and call them a turd or other derogatory things?NO.BECAUSE I DON'T CARE!While Iknow it is a very popular sport, my dad and brothers really dig it as well as many many people in the country, I have no interest. But to my point, I don't know what goes on in the nascar threads is because I DON'T READ OR CLICK ON THEM! I DON'T CARE! I have no interest for reasons stated that I will never click on them.
To go a step further, IF for some reason they ever got shut down I would never and I mean never think about showing up and being such an ass as to celebrate their demise. Total and complete lack of class not to mention maturity. Something along the lines of NA NA BOO BOO comes to mind when I read the joyous posts by some.
