2021 Health Marketplace Awful In My Area

The company I had for 2020 was MHS and it wasn't bad. Well for 2021 the premiums have doubled and they have increased all the copays adding several new ones to things that didn't have them before. They have also withdrawn all of their plans from my county except that one and a high deductible one.  It is 8.5k upfront before it pays anything. (it is a silver plan)  It looks like I am on the bronze special this year from a company I have never heard of. I'll hope I don't get sick.

This sort of follows a pattern in my area. First, we had Anthem in our marketplace as the only viable choice.  They lost boatloads of money so they pulled out.  Then we got MHS as the only viable choice. Now that MHS is almost gone we get CareSource with very skimpy benefits.  Co-pays are $25 on generic drugs and $40 for visits to your primary care physician.

Well, this is why we need universal single-payer health care. Unfortunately, you happen to be in a Republican state--where the only reason that there is any health care at all is for big corporations to make profits.

When Obamacare was initiated in 2014, Oregon had already had a universal healthcare system in place for twenty years. No one could be denied insurance, and while higher-risk patients paid more, that was capped at 130% of the statewide average premium. Obamacare allowed the expansion of Medicaid and Medicare benefits and the provision of additional services.

Right now, I have complete medical, dental, and prescription coverage, with zero copays, at $250 a month. It covers just about everything--hospitalizations, ambulance rides, etc. It's now in conjunction with healthcare.gov rather than just state-administered.

If you want good, affordable health care, you have to move to one of them SOOOOOOCIALIST LIBURRUL states. Our premiums are lower because hardly anybody carries GUNZ and we don't have cowboys downing two six-packs and then driving their pickup trucks down Main Street in reverse.
