President Donald Trump’s hike in tariffs is projected to generate enough revenue to cut federal deficits by $4 trillion over the next decade, according to the latest analysis by the Congressional Budget Office (CBO).
No kidding, when you raise taxes, you have the opportunity to decrease the deficit. Tariffs are a consumption tax, are you in favor of codifying a consumption tax to replace income tax, without any carveouts? It's a very regressive tax, so the middle class and lower-income folks would be hit the hardest.
I used to be in favor of a consumption tax when I was younger, but now I understand how difficult it would be to implement not without burdening younger people trying to raise a family and enjoy their lives.
