I asked that question in all seriousness. Sweden is a socialist country, and most European countries are social democracies (which have some elements of socialism). Those countries have been prosperous and happy for decades.

Thats huge, Tom ! Government run healthcare in Sweden isn't socialism? Of course their economy (like ours) is a mix of Socialism and Capitalism. THey just draw the line closer towards the former than we do. And to the extent they have Captialism they intelligently regulate the shit out of it without special interest money corrupting their legislature like we have here.
The result ? The people are happier, get better healtcare, and more importantly have the best chance of social mobility.
Thats right, when it comes to the AMerican dream of going from rags to riches one has a much more accomodating environemt in countries that draw the divide much further to the left than we do. We dont even make the top ten.

Do you guys even know how to read. The discussion is on economic socialism, not social programs. If they actually regulated the shit out of it, then their free economy score would have been lower. These countries do tax the shit out their citizens thru income taxes, VATs & other taxes. In America we get to keep our income & choose how to spend it.
US healthcare is better when one looks at cancer/heart survival rates (even though Americans kill themselves thru poor diet/lack of exercise/drugs/booze), accessibility, waiting times
