I don't think the employment numbers were 'rigged'. I think when the BLS casually publishes the biggest percentage revisions in 50 years without any details something is seriously wrong with the data collection and reporting process. And don't forget the 800,000 downward revision from last year.
I've always thought BLS was the gold standard for these numbers. Now, not so much. This is serious business. The markets depend on those stats being right. If the Fed had the accurate numbers they probably would have started cutting rates in June. It impacts everyone.
I think Trump was right to fire the Commissioner but for the wrong reason. I don't think the chief was being partisan, but instead she was being incompetent, not transparent on what led to the revision (lack of response to surveys), and she had no plan to fix the process.
Hopefully she's replaced with someone who can fix the data collection and reporting systems because what we got would be unacceptable from anyone leading any economic reporting organization.
But hey...The liberal intellectual pussies seem to be fine with bureaucrats who publish wrong numbers and then massive corrections with no detailed explaination of the revision or plan to fix the initial reporting....because math is hard and they're ok that??? That's no way to run a country!
