Ahh...the sweet smell of facism

43% of self identified republicans believe the president should be able to shut down the media

I didn't have to base my argument on a corrupt, third world nation to make this point.    These are US citizens in the Republican party.

When I was attending middle school and high school, I can remember long lectures on the shortcomings of the Soviet Union and the Eastern Bloc.  The biggest shortcoming was always the government control of the media and how the population of these countries didn't have access to accurate news. They only had access to government propaganda.

It boggles my mind how many Republicans/conservatives eagerly lap up every piece of propaganda they can get their hands on. The wackadoodle conspiracy theories are believed by an unbelievably large number of them. More and more conservatives act out on these kook theories conducting their own armed investigations of non-existent pizza place basements and campgrounds in the Arizona desert.

When confronted with the facts by the news media rather than carefully weigh the evidence their immediate reaction is to call the news media biased against them and now many of them are advocating for the news media to be shut down altogether.

PJ, I don't know if you recall when Pence was governor he was so unhappy with how the news media covered his right to discriminate against homosexuals law and how he flubbed up the HIV crisis that was plaguing Trump voters in the southern part of the state, that he wanted to spend millions of dollars to create a government-owned news agency to trumpet the successes of Mike Pence.

I'm guessing our resident conservatives here haven't responded because they are too busy ironing their brown shirts.

Amendment One

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

DonDiego enjoys living under the principles established by those men wiser than he and they are still found in the Constitution of the United States, . . . like in this case - the First Amendment.

DonDiego disagrees with President Trump's supporters idea that he should be permitted to "shut down the media".

As does the Constitution.

DonDiego suggests citizens have no need to get their panties in a wad over the matter, as long as there is a sufficient number of conservative Supreme Court Judges on the bench.

Nonetheless he suspects some will.

A poll exclusively provided to a left wing website that has been part of the media cabal attacking the president since before he took office. Not surprised that you failed to mention that some "self identified" democrats agree with some republicans.

Why do I highly doubt this "poll"?

I see at least two of resident conservatives didn't bother reading the first couple of sentences of the story before commenting on it.  It is an Ipsos poll, not a left-wing website poll. The conservative media has reported on the same poll.

Mark, the first paragraph reads:

"Freedom of the press may be guaranteed in the Constitution. But a plurality of Republicans want to give President Trump the authority to close down certain news outlets, according to a new public opinion survey conducted by Ipsos and provided exclusively to The Daily Beast."

I read, and comprehended, the entire article. I wrote that the poll was exclusively provided to a left wing website. The Daily Beast IS a left wing website. Were they lying when they published that the poll was "provided exclusively" to them?

Ipsos is a reputable polling company. It isn't a partisan poll.  It wasn't done for the Daily Beast.  They were just the first to get the results.

Hello Bob.  As I recall, you are an NHRA fan.  Are you coming to Indy for the NHRA US Nationals?  I'll be in Vegas August 30-Sept 2, but if you're going to be around outside of those days, I'll buy you an adult beverage if you have an interest.  I live less than 10 minutes from the track.
