Ahh , . . . . the sweet smell of Socialism, . . .

. . . not the smell of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, . . . but the smell of Socialism Around the World:

Item 1:

The African National Congress in South Africa - perhaps soon to be re-named Azania - has recently authorized the expropriation of land without compensation.  [Poor old DonDiego is unfamiliar with the words applicable to this process in Africa, but in the United States it is called theft.]

Now the Government is implementing it:

"The ANC has targeted 139 selected farms that they plan to expropriate without compensation in the coming weeks as it moves to make good on its commitment to test out section 25 of the Constitution."

Ref: News24

n.b.  This same socialist solution to capitalist farming practices was implemented some years ago in Rhodesia, . . . after it became Zimbabwe.  Some years thereafter Zimbabwe ended up lopping lopping 32-zeroes off its currency.

Item 2:

"The Venezuelan Government has launched a new economic [plan] to contain hyperinflation and the devaluation of the national currency, the Bolivar, by slashing five zeros from the bank note. Senior officials say this will help buyers to use less banknotes. The opposition for its turn blames the socialist government for the bad economy."

Wait a minute, . . . the Opposition blame Socialism ? ? ?  Say it ain't so.

And anyway, . . . it's only lopping 5-zeroes, . . . there's 27 more to go to match Zimbabwe !

Mark suggests Don consider El Salvador and Haiti for the retirement home of his capitalistic dreams.

DonDiego thanks Mark for his recommendations, . . but he opines that Mark has not considered poor old DonDiego's well being.

Re  Haiti:

Environmental issues in Haiti include a severe deforestation problemoverpopulation, a lack of sanitation, natural disasters, and food insecurity. A major reason for these environmental issues is that there is not sufficient protection or management of the country's natural resources.

Re El Salvador:

Violent crime—including homicide, armed robbery, carjacking, rape and kidnapping—is a serious problem throughout El Salvador and is escalating dramatically. A contributing factor to this increase in crime is the presence of organized criminal gangs. Gang culture has spread throughout much of the country; however, the problem is most critical in urban centres, especially in greater San Salvador. Typical crimes carried out by violent, organized street gangs include extortion, mugging, highway assault, home invasion and car theft.

Presently DonDiego resides in a decent home on a ridge with views of green valleys, . . . and mountains in the distance.  From his window he observes a variety of birds every day - even a few wild turkey families that come by to dine under the bird feeders most every day - and the occasional deer, . . . once in a while a groundhog or skunk or even a fox.  He's heard coyotes in the neighborhood, but not seen any yet.

He has so far avoided the environmental issues and violent crime threats which Mark recommends.

DonDiego has it right.  Taking land without compensation is theft....not socialism.

You can find attributes of socialism right here in America with trumps tariffs, subsidies, threats to corporations, and his personal business empire being run from the White House .   But where’s the fun in pointing that out?
