Who said anything about "poor (BLACK !!!) people" except you, Kevin. I'm not familiar with the population of the South Side of Chicago, might be all poor white for all I know. And I don't know much about rabbits except that I've heard they breed rather quickly. Government assistance for low income 'families' isn't a myth, it is a fact. And many low income Blacks and whites get by on those checks for a variety of reasons, another fact. Not racist, fact. But you can look at it that way.
I've probably lived and worked and been friends with more persons of the Black race than you ever thought about having. I live in a 90% black to white neighborhood. Moved here in 1987, a brand new home, our first home, mostly a white neighborhood at the time as far as I know. Soon after we moved in the school system/bussing etc. was re-drawn and white flight happened. My husband had just made significant improvements to the house including a sprinkler system he dug and installed himself, enlarged the dining room and added a large deck to the small one. We were happy, had no intention of moving for any reason, both of us happy in our jobs and life. After the flight we had wonderful Black neighbors, and still do. My best neighbor friends left and right and across the street are Black, have been life savors to me since my husband died, and I try to be good neighbor to them. House is paid off, it is actually a quiet neighborhood, no crime that I'm aware of, and house is paid off. When the neighborhood was developed somebody gave all the streets Civil War names, e.g. Gettysburg, Bull Run, Antietam. I don't know of any complaints being lodged, it is what it is. I'm at the wrong end of the end of life scale, don't plan on moving.
My first job, City of Memphis Hospitals, Black patients, Black staff, loved the job. I don't live in Memphis anymore because husband got a job where I am now. In all of my nursing jobs I've worked along side of, supervised and been supervised Black and white persons. I had to fire one white nurse (she was worthless) and one Black nurse (she was good when good but more bad than good so she had to go). When I gave her walking papers she actually thanked me and told me I was the best supervisor she'd ever had! I must have been doing something right.
