Another reason why Portland is awesome

I was recently hospitalized for several days to treat a serious infection.

Only I didn't have to spend those days in the hospital. A company called MedHome comes to your house with all the equipment necessary to care for you. A dedicated router is installed and you have a direct link to your assigned nurse and doctor via video call. A med tech visits you twice a day, and all the medications you need are brought to you by courier.

MedHome is going to expand to other cities in the near future, but right now, it only exists in the Portland metro area. I was told that it saves 35-50% over the cost of a hospital bed and produces better patient outcomes. It was originally going to be implemented in 2020, and then the pandemic hit--and the reaction of local authorities was to fast-track it, to free up hospital beds. In Oregon, they actually give a shit about public health and allocate funds for its expansion. Possibly the best system in the country.

No one wants to be in the hospital, and this program makes it easier to avoid that.

It isn't "subsidized" by anybody, idiot. It's paid for by insurance--the Oregon Health Plan. And it saves money...moron.

Where does the Oregon Health Plan get their money?

Same place the police and fire departments get their money. And as Boilerman would say, free shit.

Premiums paid by subscribers, plus Medicare and Medicaid federal funding.

From the Oregon Health Plan web site.

"The Oregon Health Plan (OHP) is free health coverage from the State of Oregon. People who meet income and other requirements can get the Oregon Health Plan. OHP covers medical, dental, and mental health care."

Kevin is correct that this isn't free shit.  Others are paying for his "fair share", so it's free for him.  I did zero research prior to my comment five hours ago, but I already knew the answer.

Speaking of "free shit"....Obamacare just had a record number of people sign up and its satsisfaction rate is higher than ever.    As of now - only 10 states have refused to expand Medicaid.

All the red states that cried bloody murder about the big government takeover of our healthcare system are now relishing in its benefit to their citizens.    Even Boilerman's red state Utopia of Indiana where the state legislature has a super majority of Republicans and a Republican governor have adopted it..    Because it was a good idea....and they know it....they just cant stand that the black president got it done.

PS - Trump is still promising to repeal and replace it for his next campaign.    Thats a great punchline given his record from his first term.

David, you never told us how you spent our tax dollars from the free shit COVID checks you got - you know, the ones that went out to deadbeat losers who suck at life and cant take care of themselves so they need other peoples' money...like you?

Was a Vegas slot machine?  Or did you actually spend it on something constructive?  We deserve to know.  Its our money, after all.
