I was recently hospitalized for several days to treat a serious infection.
Only I didn't have to spend those days in the hospital. A company called MedHome comes to your house with all the equipment necessary to care for you. A dedicated router is installed and you have a direct link to your assigned nurse and doctor via video call. A med tech visits you twice a day, and all the medications you need are brought to you by courier.
MedHome is going to expand to other cities in the near future, but right now, it only exists in the Portland metro area. I was told that it saves 35-50% over the cost of a hospital bed and produces better patient outcomes. It was originally going to be implemented in 2020, and then the pandemic hit--and the reaction of local authorities was to fast-track it, to free up hospital beds. In Oregon, they actually give a shit about public health and allocate funds for its expansion. Possibly the best system in the country.
No one wants to be in the hospital, and this program makes it easier to avoid that.
