Another reason why Portland is awesome

I pay taxes in Oregon, and have for some time. Only idiots like Boiler think that that amounts to what he calls "free shit." I'm the one who has paid for my "fair share." Of course, unlike Boiler, I'm smart enough to live in a state that has comprehensive health care for everyone.

These are state programs...so if you don't like medical care, you're free to move to a shithole red goober state, where the only medical care available is to donate money to Trump and hope he sends you a Band-aid.

I pay taxes here. I get state-funded medical care here. Too profound for people like Millerscum to comprehend.

Nope. The people who don't qualify for this program are paying for your fair share.

Heh. Heh. I thought you did your "research," Boilerboob. ANYBODY can qualify for the Oregon Health Plan--they just have to be an Oregon resident. If your income is above a certain threshold, you have to pay premiums, on a rising/sliding scale. If below that threshhold. FEDERAL Medicaid and/or Medicare funds pay your premium. It's coordinated with Obamacare, but has existed for over 40 years in some form.

On the other hand, since you got it completely wrong...maybe you DID do your "research."

Paying premiums on a rising/sliding scale is paying for it basically.  

Back to the title of this topic.......what is the first reason so not sure how this can be "another."  (But I'm not ripping on your here Kevin - truce is still intact)  

I've already stated many times what else makes this city awesome...but others may not care about such things. Particularly, the idiot propaganda about the BLM "riots" here and the absurd exaggerations about the so-called "decline" of downtown make it impossible to discuss it rationally, particularly with our shortbus conservitards.

But since you did ask...this is a beautiful city, made so not only by a terrific natural setting but also many lovely parks and green spaces (and yes, the tax money spent to create and maintain them). The cultural life is top-notch and varied. The economy here is booming, and it's a great place to find a good job.

Subjectively...people are nice here. Really nice. People in traffic will actually wave the other driver ahead. People hold doors open for others. And yes...there's not only tolerance but respect for people who are "different." We don't demonize immigrants here.

The weather is excellent. Yes, it rains a lot in the winter--but that's when other places are getting bombed by snowstorms and freezing their asses off. And summers here--glorious.

Finally--our politics are liberal. Why are they that way? Because that's what the people who live here want. If you're a conservative, will that twist your panties to the extent that you wouldn't like it here? Up to you--but one thing is certain: your life would be more peaceful than if you were a liberal who moved to a redneck goober conservitard city. We're accepting of diversity here.

Now for the reality of this shithole - Portland’s Curious Case of Urban Discontent - When residents talk about Portland’s problems, they almost always mention three things: crime, homelessness and taxes. Sometimes they mention them all at once. “In Portland,” the local newspaper Willamette Week summed up recently, “many liberals are dodging stray bullets, losing catalytic converters to thieves and sidestepping tents. Then they open their tax bills.” The crime issue is a matter of statistics. In 2022, Portland had 96 homicides, far more than the 10-year average of 38 and nearly twice as many as Seattle, a larger city with which it is often compared. Portland had about 11,000 car thefts, up from 9,000 just the year before. The numbers aren’t as bad as those in some large eastern cities, but they have come as a shock to longtime residents who always considered theirs a safe city. Sometimes it isn’t the number of offenses that matters most — it’s the rate of increase. There are said to be 800 homeless camps in the city. One local paper reported that teachers were sometimes bringing kids in from recess because fires in the nearby homeless camps had created toxic smoke. The crime and homelessness concerns are magnified by the fact that local taxpayers feel they aren’t getting decent results from their high tax bills. A report by the consulting firm Ernst and Young showed Portland with a combined state and local individual income tax rate of nearly 15 percent — second only to New York City’s. Some of the discontent sounds hyperbolic: One recent Internet critic complained about “legions of homeless who will not accept shelters and are happily accommodated with taxpayer-provided tent, sleeping bags, tarps and supplies.” But the fact that people are saying these things — and not just a few people — suggests what the city is having to deal with. It is also dealing with warnings about residents leaving the city. Portland has lost population for the last three years. The losses are small, but here again, it’s the rate of change that contributes to the malaise. For a long time, Portland took it for granted that it was a growing city. The 11,000 car thefts works out to 1 per hour.  Portland's population has declined 5.5% since 2019 from 654 to 619.

Oregon is 5th in the country in population decline.

     But Lewis gets his tax payer funded medical treatments and all is well as far as this liberal grifter is concerned.

Portland is a beautiful place and it has wonderful people.

For those two reasons alone, it would not be a place that Millerscum or stupid Tommie-poo would like. They should stay the fuck away from here.
