May he be the first of many.
May he be the first of many.
I've wondered why Trump hasn't been indicted--then, I realized, they're going after his lackeys first, to ultimately build a stronger case against him. Many of them will sing like canaries when they find that their Trump-love could lead to prison time (and no presidential pardon!).
In a nutshell my observations and perceptions.
Democrats are losing. Midterms will go to Republicans, 2024 will go to Trump. The only thing to save the Dems will be the Jan. 6 committee completing their work before the midterms. Republicans are trying to run out the clock using stall tactics, knowing they are toast if they don't.
The future of this democracy hinges on the commitee completing their investigation. If you think Trump's first 4 years was bad, his next 4 years will be Trump on steroids. Heaven help us.
Republicans are playing hard ball. Dems are playing slow pitch. The future of the GOP is at stake. Committee finishes up and GOP will split into two halves. Trumps base will not support the Republican party. The Republican politicians who have supported Trump will pay the price. Dems finish the investigation they win and take all the marbles..
Should the Republicans succeed in stalling the committee, blanket pardons for every Capitol rioter will be granted after 2024. Bannon and the other subpoenaed witnesses will never face any consequences. Look for the DOJ to be weaponized by Trump unabashedly.
Who will come out on top? What are the odds of the committee finishing the investigation before midterms?
Despite all the bombast, I doubt very much if Trump will even run in 2024, and if he does run, I doubt very much he'll be nominated. The RepubliQ, while stupid and evil, is not so stupid as to fail to realize that Trump probably cost them the White House AND the Senate in 2020. I mean, look at how (ridiculously) close it was. If Trump hadn't played angry toddler during the debates, he might have gotten reelected, despite his traitorous awfulness.
There are a bunch of Trump wannabes in the RepubliQ who are champing at the bit. Ron "The Slime" De Santis is the front runner among many. I really, really doubt that the RepubliQ will choose Trump over one of those ambitious assholes.
As far as what impact the treason trials will have--zero, zip, zilch, no matter how far along they may be when the midterms come along. The reason? The 75 million brain-dead clowns who voted for Trump and his lackeys won't be in the least bit fazed by some of them being convicted of felonies. They knew a long time ago that those people are guilty--they just don't care! In fact, a substantial portion of the MAGA Morons applaud those who plotted and staged the attempted coup.
We have to face one sad truth. The RepubliQ are far, far better at "messaging" than the Democrats. They have figured out just how to gin up their base, using lies, racism, scare tactics, and more lies. The Democrats, on the other hand, have been trying to educate the dead-red dumdums that their social policies will benefit them. Not just Democrats--everybody.
The reason why that messaging has failed and will fail is that the MAGA Morons don't even understand how they will (would) benefit from what the Democrats are trying (and failing) to do. Example: one MAGAtard state's voters (it was either Dumbtucky or Arkiesaw) answered a poll question: do they like Medicaid? Yes. Do they like Obamacare? No. Even though a significant part of Obamacare was to expand Medicaid!
Likewise, a majority of Americans think that Democrat "agenda" items like child care assistance and free community college are good ideas. But the RepubliQ have returned to the tried and true bleat that it's all wasteful, reckless Democrat spending and socialism! SOOOOOOOOCIALISM!!!! SOOOOOOCIALISM! What about Venezulela, huh? HUH?? HUH????
That the RepubliQ arguments shouldn't fool a reasonably bright third-grader is neither here nor there when such a large portion of the electorate is not as bright as the average third-grader. Our democracy is in fact doomed, and its demise will be accompanied by frenzied cheering from the drooling MAGA "base."

His pardon won't help him with this.
