Murders?  5 people lost their lives, but murdered?  Well, the one person killed by the Capitol Police maybe.  One died of a drug overdose, and 3 of natural causes.  If you can attribute those other 4 to murder, would be interesting to see and hear that.

The rioters were initially to be charged with murder in all five deaths. The "natural causes" deaths were attributed to stress caused by the riots. They were, in fact, suicides, and their loved ones all testified that lingering trauma from injuries suffered that day were the primary cause.

So when someone commits an act that makes another person kill themselves, even several days or weeks later, that's certainly at least wrongful death. The legal standard for whether it's murder or wrongful death is whether the act was performed deliberately and with malice. I think you'd agree that the Jan. 6 rioters fit that description.

Now, the charges got reduced, some ridiculously so, because the Biden administration wanted to make peace, heal the wounds, etc. And of course, since the country was recovering from covid, Biden wanted to move on as expeditiously as possible. But the deaths, including the suicides, were caused by deliberate, malicious acts, and that qualifies as either second- or third-degree murder, depending on the jurisdiction.

The sad fact that Biden chose to go easy on them doesn't change the crimes they committed. Sad, but true. All of them are murderers.
