As San Francisco DA, Kamala misappropriated funds meant to combat border crimes

The truth and dirt is resurfacing - Kamala Harris misappropriated more than $5 million from the DOJ’s Southwest Border Prosecution Initiative. A DOJ audit found none of the cases filed by Harris’s office for reimbursement were eligible under the program. Harris’s office was forced to repay the improper funding claims. - According to the Washington Free Beacon, Kamala Harris, as district attorney of San Francisco, misappropriated over $5 million in federal grants meant to combat border crimes, according to a 2010 Department of Justice audit. The audit revealed that while Harris served as the chief prosecutor from 2004 to 2011, she requested millions from the Department of Justice’s Southwest Border Prosecution Initiative, a program designed to reimburse local prosecutors for handling cases related to illegal immigration and drug and alien smuggling referred by federal authorities. The Department of Justice inspector general's report found that none of the cases Harris's office filed for reimbursement were eligible. Consequently, San Francisco was required to repay the improperly claimed funds. The audit suggested Harris's longstanding struggle with managing border crime issues, dating back to the early days of her political career. As the current point person for Biden’s migrant policies, Harris has faced criticism from Republicans for her handling of border issues. "I think she’s been consistent throughout her political career, whether she was D.A., a California attorney general, a senator," said Ira Mehlman, media director for the Federation for American Immigration Reform. "Her entire record was about not enforcing immigration laws, [and] making sure that the people who violate those laws are not prosecuted or removed in any way." - As district attorney, Harris supported San Francisco’s status as a sanctuary city, pledging not to prosecute immigration offenses while her office still collected over $5 million in unlawful reimbursements from the federal program. DOJ auditors raised concerns after Harris's office requested significantly more reimbursements in 2006 than any other local prosecutor in the country, despite San Francisco being 500 miles north of the Southwest Border. The office claimed the funds were for handling drug cases linked to illegal immigrants referred by the U.S. Attorney’s office, but the audit found none of the cases were eligible. - https://mxmnews.com/article/c5c996c4-e744-458a-a05f-7d47b89bdcac
