Austere Religious Scholar Dies

On Saturday 26 October US military forces cornered and killed the leader of the "Islamic State of Iraq and al Sham", also known as ISIS.

DonDiego opines this is good news.  He congratulates the US military personnel who carried out the operation and the Commander-in-Chief President Trump.

On the other hand, apparently The Washington Post editors experienced difficulty in reporting the death of the terrorist leader of ISIS, . . . Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.

Shortly after reporting the event the Washington Post headline in the Obituaries read: "Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, austere religious scholar at helm of Islamic State, dies at 48."

As of Monday morning, the headline read: "Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, extremist leader of Islamic State, dies at 48."

DonDiego doesn't know what the headline is now.

I thought that he killed himself along with 3 children?

Per our newspaper he activated his suicide vest when cornered by US forces.

This is how the austere religious scholar died:

Ultimately Baghdadi, who was also wearing a suicide vest, took refuge in a "dead end" tunnel with three children. "He reached the end of the tunnel, as our dogs chased him down. He ignited his vest, killing himself and the three children. His body was mutilated by the blast. The tunnel had caved in on it in addition," Trump said.
DNA tests that positively confirmed Baghdadi's identity began "about 15 minutes after he was killed" and US teams on the ground "brought body parts back," sources told CNN.

To hear Trump tell it, he personally led the operation, charging in on a white horse and decapitating the guy with a single stroke of his magical sword. And he defeated ISIS all by himself with the incredibly clever and strategic move of withdrawing all the US troops that were opposing them.

The way Baghdadi died--as a cowardly murderer--is a reflection of his life. It's good that he's dead. However, it won't affect ISIS much. They've always been a dispersed organization, with no real chain of command. Some other murderous lunatic will quickly step up and assume the role of titular head of the group.

So letting 100 or so of them escape--much more a direct result of Trump's actions than Baghdadi's killing ever was--has far worse potential consequences than killing an ISIS leader has positive benefits. But Trumpie-poo did desperately need something to crow about. And his supporters also desperately needed something to ostensibly indicate that their hero, the Orange Orangutan, is something other than a traitorous, amoral idiot.

I contrast Trump's self-congratulatory briefing with the simple and direct way Obama reported the killing of Bin Laden. Obama=class. Trump=self-aggrandizement.

Kevin Lewis writes: "To hear Trump tell it, he personally led the operation, charging in on a white horse and decapitating the guy with a single stroke of his magical sword."

DonDiego requests that Kevin Lewis provide the source of this "news".

Kevin must get a different news feed in his hometown.

"austere" and "extremist" are synonymous.    I dont understand what DonDiego's objection is or what he believe in not accurate about either headline he references.

His criticism of the headline seems a bit.....austere.
