Belated Laughlin trip report

Jackie Gaughn suite at El Cortez averages $1500 a night, it's a time capsule and huge.

I talked to the guy at El Cortez that handles the Jackie Gaughan suite.  I don't have my notes in front of me, but 3 nights mid week is about $7000, $9000 for 3 nights over a weekend.

Most casinos hold their best suites for big gamblers...and we don't qualify.  Some will rent them but at extremely high prices.  I found a great suite at Monarch casino in Eagle, CO.  800 sq feet smaller than our Big Room in Laughlin, but a spectacular 2100 sq ft.  $13,500 for three nights.

Does el Cortez have high rollers😃

Yes, actually, they do. Every casino downtown has a loyal clientele, often stretching back decades. Some of those folks are surprisingly high stakes players.

Given the time of year your meetups happen, how about one of the casinos on the outskirts of San Diego? Barona has a large hotel, and so does the Harrah's property just north of there. There are several other choices, such as Sycuan and Valley View.

I have no idea what kind of suites they might have or what they would charge, but the weather would be nice and you could visit the beach (1/2 hour away).

Thanks for the suggestions from everyone.  I just looked at one of Kevin's suggestions...Barona.  For a standard room (three nights including a weekend) standard rooms run about $1100 out the door.  My experience leads me to believe that if standard rooms are this expensive, a 2000 plus sq ft suite is out of our price range.  Our Laughlin Nugget standard rooms run about $250 for three nights.

Ever consider Biloxi? I always enjoyed it there. There is a bit of a beach town vibe in addition to the Casino town vibe.

I liked Biloxi and Gulfport when I visited there five years ago. Mostly, it was because there was a lot of non-casino stuff to do there, and the food was Southern seafood--insanely good.

Yep, but I have yet to find a Big Room in Biloxi that is big enough and not stupid expensive.  I've been researching for years in Reno/Tahoe, Biloxi, Lake Charles, LA, Vegas satellite casinos, and just recently Eagle, CO.  Various others too.  Laughlin is too sleepy, but the Big room works.  Maybe the El Cortez in 2027, but it'll double our combined room costs...but it's workable.  The next closest that I've found would triple things.  Thanks for the suggestion!

I love Southern Seafood.

Have you looked at Westgate?
