Bernie Sanders Isn’t the Left’s Trump

This is a great read for those you that are buying the spin that somehow Bernie is just as radical as Trump and they are just opposite sides of the coin.

By: Paul Krugman

Look, I know the primaries aren’t over, and it’s still possible that Democratic centrists will get their act together. But Bernie Sanders is now the clear favorite for the Democratic nomination. There are many things to say about that, but the most important is that he is NOT a left-leaning version of Trump. Even if you disagree with his ideas, he’s not a wannabe authoritarian ruler.

America under a Sanders presidency would still be America, both because Sanders is an infinitely better human being than Trump and because the Democratic Party wouldn’t enable abuse of power the way Republicans have.

And if you’re worried about his economic agenda, what’s your concern, exactly? That he’ll raise taxes on the rich part way back to what they were under Dwight Eisenhower? That he’ll run budget deficits? Trump is doing that already — and the economic effects have been positive.

I don't always agree with Krugman, but he makes some good points. I think that the economic side of the equation doesn't matter, though, insofar as who wins the election. The vast, vast majority of voters understand economic concepts about as well as they understand Sanskrit. Just look at how every one of our Trumpers doesn't fathom the difference between national debt and budget deficit, for example (and yes, I know that they're dumber than average).

The abuse of power thing also doesn't matter, since Republicans have been and will continue to be fine with it as long as it's their boy who is doing the abusing. The Republicans have no moral center and have abandoned all decency; whatever principles they had, they've discarded them for good. Now, the only thing that matters to them is power: seizing it, and holding on to it.

Similarly, I think that most Trumpers are beyond salvation. We can't do the Biden kum-by-yah with them; they won't join us around the campfire. We have no alternative but to overcome them, brutally crush them, and eliminate them. So I don't give a rat's rectum what they think of Bernie or anyone else.

I also disagree that the effects of Trump's policies have been positive. Yeah, the stock market has been bigly. So fucking what--most Americans don't own stocks. Yeah, unemployment is low. So fucking what--that low unemployment includes tens of millions of shit, low-paying jobs that wouldn't keep a hamster alive.

And you know what? The Orange Asshole's boasting aside, I think most people are aware that the economy is actually grinding slowly to a halt. Even our Trumpers know this, though their Trump fealty will no doubt compel them to scream and insult us in response. The more they know that they're lying, the louder they scream and the nastier they get.

And nothing new from our head Trumper asshole. If you have nothing worthwhile to say, why not just keep your mouth shut?

(Of course, you can't. You're not capable of it.)

No, he's not the left version of Trump -  he is the left version of Rand Paul.

I dont think he would abuse power they way Trump does....nor is he intellectually dumb like Trump is.    But his proposals are a massive change to the status quo - and historically that does not just alienate the other party it also alienates moderates of one's own party.

Joe Manchin will switch parties and become a Republican before he signs onto Medicare for All.    I wish that weren't true but it is.

We don't know if that will or won't happen--not yet. The effects of the damage Trump has inflicted on the world's economy are only starting to be felt.

One thing is certain--Trump's breaking of alliances and trade pacts, and making enemies out of dozens of former allies, is not good for the global economy. If we have a wonderful bigly economy (and I doubt that that is really the case), it would have been even more wonderful and much biglier if Trump hadn't been in the picture.

Believe otherwise, Trumpers, and be sure to stuff your MAGA hats up your asses.

He's the left version of Bernie Sanders. In other words, he's his own brand--whether you like that brand or not.

Of course, he would be a better President than Trump--he's smarter and a far better human being. Also, even if he has this radical liberal snowflake socialist communist open borders damfool darkies getting health care agenda, that doesn't mean the country will automatically flip in that direction if and when he gets elected.

Heck, Trump's hate-everybody-be-an-asshole-bully-undo-every-single-thing-Obama-did agenda has mostly failed, and he has far fewer scruples than Bernie would.

I saw a quote from Mark Twain yesterday that describes the republican snowflakes to a "T".

"No amount of evidence will ever persuade an idiot".

So many misstatements.

According to Gallup, 55% of Americans own stocks or mutual funds. This doesn't count the Americans who have pensions & those funds invest in stocks.

After hardly moving under Obama median income is increasing.

According to a CNN poll from December 76% rate the economy as good or better.
