Better stop eating salad

Here's yet another example of how asshole Trumpiffs are ruining US-Canada trade--and businesses, and ordinary people's lives.

I didn't know this--apparently, Canada grows a fair amount of tomatoes, cucumbers, and peppers--hothouses, primarily, given their weather--and 80 percent of that produce goes to the US. Now, unlike most other Canadian goods, that produce can't be sold elsewhere, because its shelf/transport life is only about 10 days. So the growers are going to be forced out of business.

Meanwhile, here in the US, those veggies are going to get MUCH more expensive--because almost all of the remainder, we import from Mexico. Trumpiffs on everything.

So enjoy your salad. It's about to double in price. And be sure to thank Trump for that.

My son has a greenhouse in the Cowichan Valley, just north of Victoria.  He supplies the family with salad ingredients all year long.  We now have vineyards because of global warming and drink local wines and craft beer exclusively.

I hope that Canadian produce growers can stay afloat with their access to US markets effectively cut off. That goes for all Canadian businesses that sell a major portion of their products to the US. The Trumpiffs are going to hurt us, but they'll hurt Canada more. Which is a wonderful, wonderful, wonderful result if you hate Canada.

What on earth was it that made Trump mad at Canada? Was it some offhand remark made by Trudeau that suggested he wasn't going to kowtow to the Turd? This trade war is SO fucking stupid. It's like beating up the nice lady who lives next door.

I LOVE Vancouver Island, and the Cowichan Valley is a paradise tucked into a mountain valley, with yes, great wine, great views, and great weather. Sort of like BC's Napa Valley. Don't bother to come to the Trump US, you've got everything you could want right at home.

LOVE your comments, Kevin!!

It's very sad for the U.S. border towns, like Point Roberts, Port Angeles, Sumas, etc.  They are really suffering right now.

Hopefully, Trump will give us a break on "Liberation Day", April 2 with the proposed tariffs.

Kevin, Trump's end game is taking over Canada. He wants them for the same reasons he wants Greenland.

 1.  He wants to drop out of NATO.  He has been told the Military will lose access to Canadian and Greenland's airspace and costal waters. His solution is to take over those countries.

2.  Elon has been whispering in his ear about the importance of rare earth minerals and he wants them.

Trump is serious about taking over those countries and I expect a military operation in Greenland within the next year.

Wouldn't that be a gross violation of the NATO treaty? And even if the Turd withdrew us from NATO, wouldn't the NATO nations be obligated to help Denmark defend its territory?

Jesus, this is surreal--talking about the US attacking Europe. No one in the process of the formation of NATO ever dreamed that Europe would have to defend itself against the US!

The US and Canada have no formal mutual defense treaty, but if there was one, Trump would already have broken it.

If Trump makes a military move on Canada, I'll send them money to help them resist. And maybe some intelligence about troops moving north to attack Vancouver...

I read two articles online, one was about a parcel business in Port Roberts being forced to close after 40 years in operation, and another business in Blaine that has seen an 80% drop in traffic. The Trader Joe's in Bellingham, formerly the single busiest store in the entire chain, has seen a 50% drop in sales.

Barbara, I'm curious...we get a $400 exemption from import duties when we bring goods back into the US (I hope that exemption applies to Trumpiffs!). Do Canadians get a similar exemption on stuff they bring back from the US?

After 48 hours, we can bring back $800 worth of goods, which includes alcohol and tobacco.

The Port Angeles Mayor came to Victoria recently to plead with Canadians to continue travelling on the Coho.

I will continue with my Vegas and Washington trips.  After all, we are good neighbours!  Hopefully, the situation will settle down soon.

What is the population of Canada, and what effect would being our 51st state have on our future elections.  Canadians seem pretty liberal, so I would think the democrats would welcome them with open arms, just like the illegals crossing the southern border.

What does it say about our country that we've grown completely numb to a sitting president talking about annexing other democratic countries ?     I dont know if we just stopped recognizing it as being batshit crazy....or we just stopped taking anything Trump says seriously.       I dont think its a postive develpment either way.
